DPD idiots

I have an urgent parcel to go off to Poland and booked for collection today by DPD. They sent me an e-mail to expect collection between 1400 and 1500. When they hadn't called by 1600 I chased it up to be told "the driver called and left a card because there was no answer". That was despite me being here all day and had deliveries from the PO, UPS and Fedex.

What occasionally happens with new drivers is that they go to "Rowneys", the house across the way, instead of me at "Rowney Corner Farmhouse". Now, there is never anyone at Rowneys during the day. So, the DPD driver turned up, had no answer, so why not phone my number which is clearly on their paperwork ? FFS, the house name is different and there is no one at home so...:doh:

Last time I use DPD. I only booked it because it was a bit cheaper than UPS, which I normally use. That'll learn me for saving a few pounds.

I had a similar experience with My Hermes, twice not turning up to collect parcels and then " parcel left in safe place " which translated into tossed over a fence into the garden, what a quality service. Like you say Dave, UPS is the way to go.

My Hermes are a waste of space, read their small print, they will not offer compensation for damage to electronic or electrical goods but they will take the extra insurance payment from you though as I found out to my cost. This was a year ago and I haven't used them since.

According to DPD, the parcel is booked for 1549 - 1649 today and the driver has been told that if there are any issues, he should phone my number. Something he should have done yesterday.

I'm not holding my breath.

Not used dpd i dont think for an uplift, but had plenty stuff delivered via them. Mostly small and pretty inert stuff but have always bar once been on time. Of course its not as busy here as down south so probably less to go wrong.
Hope they arrive. ps. The box via ups arrived..ta :)

Couldn't make it up. Despite the driver being given instructions to phone me in case of "issues", I have just received an e-mail to say that as I wasn't "available", they will "collect some other time". I have been here all day with the phone by my side. FFS

I shall never, ever use DPD again.

DPD? No no no! Never!
They destroyed my 2 packages to Poland! Both worth more than 1000! and they refused pay insurance. Right now I am going to the court with that.

oh my goodness , I just sent a valuable amp to Poland but it got there ok . so sorry to hear of your experience

dpd are rated by which as the best courier company . I have always had excellent service from them

As I understand it DPD are the only UK company actually making a profit out of the home delivery market. I've never had an issue with them, or Parcelforce. Citylink, now they were a different matter. Loads of bother both business shipping and private.

The parcel was collected yesterday, early evening. Pharos, the company I book carriage with got it sorted out, insisting that the idiot driver return and collect. This time he did phone from 'Rowneys', the house across the road, so that I could direct him in. He couldn't understand that he had done anything wrong as there is "Rowney in the name".

Hopefully, DPD will deliver it safely but I will never use them again. It's UPS from now on.

If I ever witnessed anything like that I would speak to them, take photos and the licence number of the vehicle and report them. That's disgraceful :(

Had a My Hermes delivered parcel thrown over my back gate, landed in a puddle :( Thankfully it wasn't a breakable or something that minded a swim, but...... :doh: What part of safe delivery does throwing something over a back gate equate to. Anything I buy, that seller uses My Hermes I request they put do not throw over, or drop over the back gate on the parcel. In fairness since then I haven't had a problem.

Parcel Force are fine, so far.

We've had stuff delivered by Hermes, usually Clothes for my Wife and they don't even ring the bell. The package is just left propping up the door.

Had that with hermes, and amazon tbh, although times ive been in they at least chapped the door....just they only gave me 4 secs to answer. They have been better here of late. In many cases its tge company to fault not the person as the round they have to do is a farce...even my ups man said that and he was good. Not seen him lately so dunno if he left

They are worked hard, and for a pretty low wage + got to deliver the item first time or there are penalties. However throwing, dropping, standing on parcels isn't on, regardless.

Unless it is a timed delivery they don't get penalised for not delivering first time but they only get paid once delivered. And the problem with delivering to a domestic address is that, unlike a business, there is often no-one in to accept delivery. The other issue is that people are generally inclined to pay less for courier delivery than a business. Charge too much for delivery and people will buy from somewhere else instead. So there is a huge market for cheap home delivery services, but very little money in it. So you squeeze a profit by paying your drivers very little - they are contractors on piece work so minimum wage doesn't apply. None of the blokes you see in the clips posted above will be making minimum wage, probably not even close.

Gawd we're spoiled here... Yodel now have two delivery guys at any one time, our UPS driver knows me now due to parts deliveries and he's great and even Parcelforce know us as we're all local in this insular little town. Even the drop-off points are not far away.

Dave, no excuse as your house has a sodding great sign outside telling visitors where you are...

I have just had a parcel delivered here by Chronopost. I knew I would. It be in so I asked to have it delivered to my local post office (by selecting it from a list on their website). It seems that the driver got confused and delivered it to a post office local to him, roughly 12km away from where I asked. The problem is that this post office closes earlier than where I asked it to be delivered so I had to leave work early to get it.

It seems a universal trait at the moment.

UPS are by far the best here.
