Very useful bit of kit if you like trying different mc cartridges.
In 'as new' condition ... the first photo is showing some odd effects due to rubbish phone camera not dealing with low light properly

In pristine condition. Bought new in spring, 2016 (by a wammer), I am the second owner.

I've been asked to (try to) describe how this differs from a SUT (step up transformer). Firstly it's much more flexible, in that most SUTs need to be matched to a particular cartridge, or a 'class' of similar spec cartridges. This headamp will accomodate every type of mc cartridge (with the possible exception of the Audio Note Io). IME, most SUTs give a slightly 'relaxed' presentation when matched correctly, whereas this has a little more 'drive' and energy. A feature of a good SUT is that it has a very low noise contribution, but this is almost as quiet ... turn the volume up full and there is a slight hiss, but at anywhere near normal levels it's essentially silent. I used it with both a Rothwell Rialto (on mm setting), and a Boardman valve mm phonostage, and it certainly complemented both perfectly. TBH, if I was running a turntable in my second system, it'd be staying, as I love what it does. As with all Rothwell products, it's a well-engineered, solid bit of kit.
