Stylus cleaning polymers

I've had a couple of tubs of blue polymer for cleaning my stylus - it's a simple dunk 'n' lift and the crap comes away quite well.

The only downsides are that a) it dries out far too quickly (to the consistency of a boiled sweet) and b) it can be a bit gunky when first opened, meaning there's the possibility of leaving a trace of the polymer on the stylus tip, which then screws about with the sound and attracts dust all the more.

Looking at a few options on eBay, but does anyone have a surefire solution?

I use a couple of different things.
I find the VP dust buster works well for everyday use and mine hasn't dried out, you can wash it in warm water to renew it.
I also use magic eraser's for a slightly more through clean. The magic eraser needs using with care, that being said I've had a couple of pretty gunky carts I've bought used and the magic eraser has made them look like new.

That's the one, as Tim has said you need to be careful with it.
Cut a small piece off, stick it on a penny with a bit of bluetack and
Lower stylus on to it once or twice.
Works great.

+! Audiogon thread by Doug Deacon shows microscope photos proving its effectiveness. I've been using it for years with great success. Good idea to follow it with a dry brush to remove any remaining loose debris. One little box will last for years.

I have the VP Dust Buster for several years and it is still going strong. However, I use washing up liquid to clean mine, because I live in a hard water area. For every day cleaning around £20 quid, I'd say you can't go wrong. For heavier cleaning, particularly static build up, I use Audio Technica's AT607 Stylus Cleaning Formula.

It really works remarkably well. I was surprised but have noticed significantly better results than with the commercial "goop" I used to dip it in.
