View Full Version : So what audio goodies is Santa bringing you for Christmas this year?

Barry

Try as I might, I can't simply ignore Audio Al's gleeful reminders of the forthcoming Christmas. So to make it a bit more interesting, I'm going to ask what audio goodies Santa is going to bring you this Christmas, provided of course you have been a good boy (or girl).

Since I don't believe in Santa, all my presents have been bought by myself (yes, all my Christmas present shopping is now complete), so my presents to myself are:

A Brinkmann 10.5 arm, to be fitted (with difficulty) on a Thorens 124/II deck,

An SME M2-12R arm, also to be fitted on a Thorens 124/II deck,

and a retipped (an hence 'new') EMT XSD-15 sfl cartridge.

Having heard a M55E cart with SAS Jico stylus today I think that may go on my pressie list. Well impressed.

If you like Deccas, have a listen to a ZYX. I use both. The ZYX MC's offer everything the Deccas do, but the presentation is a bit different (more refined?).

If you are buying a new SME, then please let me know because I can save you loads.

Santa can't supply any of the audio goodies I would be interested - I'll have to source them myself (in conjunction with my Elven friends).

The Stonking Sony 730ES is a crimbo gift as well as the used VALAB DAC I've just purchased on here. Should be a great system to play Chrismas songs through lol

Just occurred to me. I've always fancied a Pass Labs Aleph 3 power amp. Maybe Santa could oblige.

A new cartridge to replace my old Cadenza Blue. Listening to some Santa's got next week. The blue has been excellent, but it's time to go.

I've obviously been a very naughty boy.....absolutely nothing:)

I might get some more dosh in though as I've been selling stuff. We are down to only five or six systems now but mostly stuff I want to keep. Ronnie was keen to thin out further but as soon as I suggested that some of her stuff could go too, she rather changed her mind:lol:

I have been very naughty already .... so I don't really want any shiny new bits or boxes. But if I'm good enough, then maybe some more long brown things ... nothing naughty now .... just some more tape ... 1/4 inch 15 IPS master tape.... it's very addictive .... :) :)

H was going to ring me a new big telly but that plan has changed and now it is going to be something from the planet Altair 4. Bit of a long round trip for old Sants, but hey, that's what he does.

The boron cantilever version will be expensive, if you can find one.
I had one in my cartridge box on my recent visit. A cracking cartridge/aftermarket stylus combo.
Sounds like Christmas will be expensive, with an AT33 and an M55?

I quite fancy a pair of monoblocks, but I will settle for some new media.

well santa was a little busy this weekend, so I decided to pick up my own stuff.
a pair of dynaudio contour s3.4, and a moon ace neo, both currently sounding very sweet indeed. just waiting for some chord epic speaker cable to swap the old bit of linn cable I had lying around.
so far so good a very nice sound, the wife didn't really like to height of the speakers so a slight fail of the WAF.

Yes it might seem to be profligate, but these items have been on my radar for some time.

I have an unhealthy fascination with vinyl playback, and thus with cartridges and arms. The two arms became available recently for a very good price, so I had to snap them up. Likewise the cartridge is comparatively rare, and although is still made in small numbers, is expensive. The one I bought off eBay, had been fully serviced and retipped by the manufacturer, hence was 'as new' at a fraction of the normal cost.

Next Christmas will be much cheaper!

They are pretty tall. Still as long as the WAF has only slightly failed, it's still a merry xmas :)

Each to his own, though. If I was to single out a 'bit of totty', representing a Christmas present, it wouldn't be her... I prefer petite types [and younger], such as my wife ;)

Yes, she suits the blonde hair, and like most other women, looks far better (and younger) 'au natural' with all their make-up scrubbed off! ;)

She's slim and nicely toned too, which also helps :)

I've given the family a list of half a dozen albums to choose from, so here's hoping. I have a fortnights break at Christmas, so I'm planning on giving the old girl a good seeing to 'my 401 that is' :eyebrows: Clean it, lube it, strip all the cables out and clean all contacts on my amp etc.

Then I've gathered together all the bits needed to upgrade my cartridges, a Dr Feickert Analogue protractor, new mounting collar and spacer off Hugo (must just mention the fabulous service from Hugo, top man) also a test record, mainly for setting azimuth if I can figure it out. All this is to move up to two new carts, AT-33s one stereo, one mono, my aim being to switch from one to the other with absolute minimum adjustment, fingers crossed that's my Christmas sorted.
