Sad to hear. Was always a big fan of his outpourings and have a lot of his albums. Saved my sanity a few times

Dance me to the children who are asking to be born
Dance me through the curtains that our kisses have outworn
Raise a tent of shelter now, though every thread is torn
Dance me to the end of love

Dance me to your beauty with a burning violin
Dance me through the panic till I'm gathered safely in
Touch me with your naked hand or touch me with your glove
Dance me to the end of love

This is sad. Leonard was very special. One of a kind.

Some say he couldn't sing but that deep voice comes over amazingly on a decent system on quite a few of his recordings.

He did do some amazingly good songs. The first track of the last album "You Want It Darker" being one with a plus of a great bassline and fantastic SQ. In the light of what has just happened that song's lyrics are a bit unsettling.

Unlike so many of us, his work will be enjoyed by many for decades, maybe longer. What better than to die with the knowledge of that? An enviable asset of the fortunate talented few, who appeal to people on an emotional level, I often think.

I've been listening to Track 8 of this one today, "Tower of Song"

Think i have about 16 albums of his, so i guess that puts me in fan class lol. He was a randy bugger all his days too....more power to him

Only just heard - I'm stunned and don't really know what to say, except for me he was possibly one of the greatest singer-songwriter, novelist and poet. Up there with the best of them: Dylan, Mitchell, Paul Simon etc.

What a bummer 2016 is turning out to be - can it get any worse?

I'm off to play some Cohen, and possibly get drunk.

RIP Leonard, your work had an enormous influence on me.

I guess it's on specially. There's a Leonard Cohen programme on BBC 4 at the moment. I think Sharon Robinson may be singing with him. She's superb.

Leonard with (If I recall) Jennifer Warnes and the sublime Sharon Robinson. 'Alexandra Leaving'.

I met Leonard Cohen one night in Montreal. I was a student at McGill University, his alma mater. I heard that a small bar was going out of business and Leonard might go there that night. So I went. He came in alone and ordered a drink at the bar. I said, "How are you?" He said, "Can't complain." I said, "I'm from Japan." He said, "I just got back from there. I was with a Zen master." What a lovely night. Loved him dearly.
