Quite dramatic, "It will re-define the way we live"....

Ahem! Nah it won't.

Nifty if it works, but not sure it will sound any better. More for techno lovers

Looks fundamentally flawed to me. The arm is fixed rigidly to chassis while the platter is floating. Any lateral movement of the platter will not be followed by the arm and will result in a change in platter/arm geometry. And remember how tiny the groove modulations are.
Still, it looks pretty cool and that will probably outweigh all other considerations for the target market.

Was something similar not done once before ?

Problem with this is that the magnetic force required to lift a platter that high is going
to interfere with the workings of the cartridge and possibly the arm. The platter floating
that high would also be open to movement, way to stop that is you would need a spindle
for the platter to float around.

People elsewhere are also saying that the advertizing film has been messed with in some way, as in
there was a spindle but it has been as they say, Photoshopped to remove it.

Looks cool and would probably sell nicely as a commercial product for ppl who just want to spin some records.

But it has soooooooo many bad practice stuff in it for high-end reproduction....
