... or rather they were on their stands at MiBO.
Didn't get as far as I hoped yesterday, 4mm outlet sockets were installed but found the hooks screw length was insufficient.
Progress so far:

Ye gods, you rely on screws?
I assumed they would have bolts through a ceiling joist. Brave man.

They will be into the ceiling joists Gordon, I fitted long screws when the build was done to give the position.
Don't worry I will be hanging off them before the stats go up :mental:
Did this when I was student...people used to refer to them as the bats...

Got the 3 tenors on at the moment from my low power OTL valve amp. They sure do sound good.

Yours still on the original mains rectifiers Alan? I had to rebuild mine. Mucky job being potted in bitumen (or was it tar?).

So they survived the ravages of 'professional watts' then:lol:
As I'm enjoying the Pioneer so much, I sort of suggested to Ronnie that we try with the 57's and her reply was, I believe, in the negative. It was quite hard to hear whilst being boxed around my fading lugholes. As we have four other amps that are quite happy with the Quads, I suppose I can see her point!

I rebuilt the original ones, quite a few failed rectifier diodes, but have since replaced them recently for aftermarket jobbies.
@ Gordon, yes they have survived the 'proffesional watts', they do have the protection boards fitted.
Listening to the Who now, superb.

Looking spectacular. You're spoilt on the speaker front. I'm very jealous.

Is there a third wire to stabilise front/rear movement?
Firebottle

Hi Geoff, they don't actually move around on their own.
They do need to be angled down a little so I will be fitting a thin wire to the base to do just that.
They are sounding fantastic :D

Non hifi folk popping round to your abode must be very puzzled by their appearance, probably think your trying to contact the Martians!

I was thinking about a similar arrangement for my Magneplanars. I would have thought that there would be some speaker movement (equal and opposite and all that). A third wire would both angle the speaker for optimal listening and provide a gravity resistance against micro movement. I would be interested to find out how the sound changes when you fit the anchor wire.
Suppose there has to be some movement, but might not be that much with gravity having an effect, and lack of really big base waves etc..... maybe? anyone suspended traditional cone speakers before??
Put the Maggies underneath for a wall of sound!;)

Spot the maggies in the background. There is lots of experimentation to come :mental:

Any reason for hanging them upside down ? Alan
is it just ease of fixing points

Yes Al, nowhere to put the eyebolts on the top.

Alan,
that's how I would have done it. My guess, purely that, is that it would improve detail and image solidity!

Changing the angles of the panels within the room does have an effect on the imaging. I made a minor change to the right panel just to get it 100% this afternoon and they are sounding phenomenal.
Being in a smaller room compared to the last one is causing a little bass bloom but I think a bass trap in each corner will hopefully cure it.
You would be very welcome to come over and have a listen

Alan,
what do you have planned for the bass traps? DIY or commercial?

Don't know yet Geoff, will experiment with a rolled up duvet held up in the corner by my wonderful assistant first to prove the idea

It's amazing what a bit of damping material can do. I experimented when I was decorating the bathroom. Clapping hands caused a resonant echo. Hanging just one large towel on a rail made it disappear.

I agree. I always wear my towelling bathrobe when listening ... especially when auditioning at dealers

Ikea sell a heavy duty black polypropelene door matt a little larger than the profile of the Quad. It has very thick stringy fibres on one side and a glossy finish on the other. You can make a tiny hole in the edge an fit a plastic strip tie as a loop. Will post a photo shortly. Works well and looks OK.
