I think the Bloom is the one to go for especially the mk 2

Or jump to to the Fuji or Aries

Hi Steve
I assume you heard both R50 Bloom carts , any chance for short review against competition, can they really "rock" ?
Many thanks

The bloom rocks for sure but the Fuji raises the hairs on the back of your neck :)

Try and find one with the SB base which helps a lot with the choice of arms.

Not heard the Bloom 2 but have been told from a reliable source that it is a step up on mk1 bloom

I have had a few cartridges around the £1000 mark Delos,XX2 and in my personal opinion the Zyx range especially the Fuji are step above

There are a few guys on here who have R100,Yatra and it maybe worth dropping them a pm

Zyx are superb cartridges

Hi Geoff
Did you happen to own R50 as well? How does it compare to 100 and Yatra ,is increase in the price worthwile.I really don't want to spend more than £500 right now with Christmass and holiday around the corner .Another thing I am bit worried about is low compliance of R50 ~12cu which gives quite high res. freq. , I can always put some extra weight on the headshell , though . What about loading , Zyx mention >100R , I have 100R and 470R loading available , unless I make some plugs .Maybe we should go back to my thread with all comments:

Yes. I've had two R50 Blooms. Still got one and it's staying. Going to the R50 from a DL-103R was a real eye opener. The R100 is better at revealing detail, but the sheer transparency and lack of colouration of the R50 is equal and the soundstage is huge. At it's price the Bloom is amazing. My Decca Maroon was outclassed by it. Don't worry about loading, it'll work. The most important bit is a good SUT or head amp with a decent phono stage. Get that wrong and you might as well throw your money away.

Oh. And I have two R100 MCs. I'm toying with the thought of just maybe selling one. Not decided yet.

Thanks Geoff
Now it makes me think , I hoped to run it through my Whest Two stage without spending money on SUT , another option would be sell Whest buy SUT and run through McIntosh phono stage .
What SUT would you advise?
If you decided to sell that R100 how much would you like , how many hours on it ?

The Fidelity Research FRT-3 works a treat with Japanese MCs. I've used one with ZYXs very successfully. It's a very nice sounding unit. I may be moving one of those on too, as I have two other SUTs.

I don't know the hours on the R100, I don't think it's been used much, certainly not by me. I'll be putting it under the microscope for a stylus check anyway and there'll be photos. I'm undecided as yet whether to part with it, but may do so as I have the R100 H2 as well. I'd likely be wanting near £380. It sounds wonderful.

Hi Geoff
Do you know when it would be available(if you decide to sell) , How much for FRT-3?
I just received reply from Juki (Japan) he offers R50 Bloom for $450 including delivery and slightly undervalued so I wouldn't pay a lot vat&duty or I just buy new one from Analogue Seduction , can't make my mind.

I'll need to have a think about if I'll sell.

I'd be asking £180 for the FRT-3, Seems reasonable. I've seen some daft prices asked for these on occasion.

I have an r100 Yatra on a mission 774 tone arm cartridge loading set at 100 I am using a primare r32 phonostage and I agree with everything Geoff has said the soundstage is awesome and I don't get any colouration of the sound detail is superb too the sound I'm getting at the mo is the smooth side of neutral I don't know what your preferences are but I whole heartily recommend zyx carts

Hi Steven
I ordered R50 Bloom yesterday, if it sounds as you described it would be exactly what I was looking for.
I just need to order some headshell extra weight as my tonearm is bit on the lighter side

My mission arm is a low mass arm very light and the r100 works sublime with it I don't think you will have too many problems

Received an email from GTAudio today , apparently R50 should be used in arms with effective mass between 12-20 gram

The mission arm has an effective mass of 5.5g depending on counter weight and I haven't had to add any mass to the head shell

Thats what they wrote:

"The new ZYX R50 "Bloom" 3 is as follows:

EQ Compliance horizontal - 15×10-6cm/dyne
EQ Compliance vertical - 12×10-6cm/dyne

Recommended tonearm effective mass 12grams minimum/20grams maximum

With the TB or SB headshell added it will be:

+TB - recommended tonearm effective mass 9.5grams minimum/17.5grams maximum
+SB - recommended tonearm effective mass 7grams minimum/16.5grams maximum.

Therefore a tonearm with a medium effective mass is recommended for all of the above."

Just about any cartridge will work well in the Mission 774 regardless of compliance.

Occasionally with low mass cartridges, the 774 needs a minor amount of mass added at the headshell to balance out.

Even though the arm is of low mass, cartridge compliance matters little as long as the fluid damper is used correctly. Or not used, in the case of very high compliance types.

That does not apply with the Mission 774 arm.

No fluid damping on my arm hence I ordered Isokinetik headshell stabiliser which brings me up to 17gram
