View Full Version : Talk 3 or QED Original?
I am looking for a smaller, discreet speaker cable.
2.5mm should be more than adequate, so which one should I go for? Talk 3 or QED Original?

The original Talk 3 is quite a thick figure of 8 cable Kevin . I found it a bit bass heavy in my system . Talk 3.1 , is thinner but a bit stiffer . I liked this cable , it's decent cable for the money .
I'm using this at the moment and it's excellent https://www.audiovisualonline.co.uk/product/2341/fisual-hollywood-dark-twist-screened-speaker-cable/
Sorry , can't help you with the QED speaker cable mate .
I have the Cable Talk 3.1 in the system at the moment (which is the big blue figure of 8 :ner: ).
I was thinking of the Talk Cables - Talk 3 which is the new version. ;)
Thanks for the link. They don't post to France. :(

Talk 3 is a very good cable and excellent value. It is a lot better than original QED.
I post to France. No problemo.
Original QED wasn't 2.5mm as I recall (memory could be playing tricks here as we sold so little of it) and it was always way inferior to old Cable talk 3.1 and especially 4.1. The current Talk 3 is one of the original CT people Kevin Edwards, who designed all the old CT cables and I think it's based on 4.1 in insulation and gauge, but made like the old Theatre 2 was, with a small spacing and an outer jacket.
Don't forget NVA LS2, which is also a 2.5mm cable, made for installation work, but seven thicker strands per conductor rather than 42 thinner ones...
The QED I was looking at is called performance and is a 76 strand cable.
I couldn't buy NVA cable if I wanted to, or so I have been told by the owner of said company.
I think the Talk 3 is likely to edge it, but having just made a Cat5 cable, I may put this on hold for a while until I asses the performance of a simple network cable.
Dunno what they use now but LS2 was just 2.5mm 6491X (also called H07V-R) "singles" installation cable. You can pick up 100m reels on EBay for £25 ish.
I only remember QED 79 strand which was nothing special.
Current LS2 comes from mid Europe now with a black coating on a grey inner insulation and no great claims are made for it. I like it 'cos there's no bull about it and it screams common sense away from audiophoolery. This stuff sells for around double the eBay stuff on the 100m drum (I've checked!).
Cat 5 is only a very few tiny conductors isn't it? I suspect it'll sound different because it's not a large gauge and *may* be adding all manner of parameters missing in a dedicated conventional cable?
Dave, I suggest you read my post here: http://theartofsound.net/forum/showthread.php?47481-Yamaha-As-2100-any-experience&p=802262#post802262

I have both.
I don't use the QED.
Hope that answers your query.
