Kenwood KD-990 turntable for sale - £595

Classic heavyweight Japanese direct drive turntable from the 1980's. Rarely found for sale in the UK.

This deck is in good condition cosmetically but it is not mint. There are a few minor dings to the piano black finish. These are mainly at the rear. There are two imperfections at the front that I have photographed with flash. Under normal lighting these blemishes do not detract much from the overall appearance of deck. It looks good. The lid has the usual polishing marks but no scratches or cracks. Spare lid also provided with minor crack to side panel.

Both deck and arm are in perfect working order. The deck keeps perfect speed thanks to quartz locking. It is semi automatic, at the end of the record the motor turns off and the arm lifts but does not return. The phono leads have been replaced with Van Damme cable by Audio Origami.

This deck is 220V as I imported it from Germany.

Can be auditioned in Glasgow. Collection only. (That said, I'm going to Leeds on Sunday 30/10 to collect my new deck and could deliver/meetup.)

I have one of these and they are outstanding - built on an elaborate and expensive skeletal cast alloy chassis and IMO one of the best Japanese direct drive decks ever made. The arm looks a bit 80s naff but it is actually very good by any standard, easily capable of taking the best moving coil cartridges. Someone will be a lucky and very happy new owner of this deck!

Thanks for your comments Hugo. You're right. It is the cast alloy spider chassis that elevates the performance of this deck. A couple of pics of the chassis below. One is of my deck without the base plate.
