I'm looking for cheap alternatives for a MC cartridge to use with my Lentek headamp on my Lenco and wondered if the venerable 103 would be a good match for the Alphason, has anyone every used this combination?

ive not tried that one but i can recommend the ortofon mc 25fl. they go for about £125 and after i got mine i certainly didn't miss my nagaoka mp500.
the cartridge is a bang on match for the arm too :)

hmmmmm.... doing a little digging around looks like the old 103 and alphason arn't going to be best buddies. :(

Yup. Great MC. In a different league to the 103 and nearly on a par with the ZYX R50 Bloom. Just try and find one though.

An alternative is the Goldring Eroica LX. It's a really nice sounding cartridge and an MC bargain at the new price.

I've owned them all by the way. Still have the Eroica and R50 (amongst others)

103R works well in the alphason and is a better cart than the 103

I actually have a 103M sitting right beside me but don't really want to use it on my Lenco.

If you wear it out, certainly have it re-tipped. But if it's good, why muck about with something that sounds that nice as it is?

Why not? There's no point having it sitting there doing nothing.

It's reserved for my 301.
