Hi all,

I am beginning my first foray into streaming and would like to get a starter DAC to se what all the fuss is about. Budget is about £100ish and ideally I am looking for something with optical and USB inputs (something like the Schiit Modi über would be ideal) but would consider something with just optical input too. Let me know if you have anything suitable.

Thanks
Phil

Thanks for the offer, Steve. I'm going to leave the ad up for a couple of days to see what else is on offer before making a decision, but i'll let you know one way or the other by the end of the week.

Thanks,
Phil

Hi
I have a Teradak based VALAB 8x TDA1543 NOS dac.

As name suggests it has 8x 1543 chips in parallel in non over sampling mode and is said to have a analog-like performance ----pretty hard to get hold of now --- its a bit of a giant killer with a good following --- £95 delivered if you fancy it

A Beresford Caiman MkII with GFU upgrade - £130.00 plus P&P at cost. Immaculate.

I'd go for the Caimen and with the GFU it's a bargain, I don't think anything will touch it in this price range or at 3 times the original RRP, bloody great headphone amp too

i can vouch for the smsl m8,great sound and features.
it has so many features, nice and small and does dsd,had one for a year, would of kept it but i had the original model that switched itself off after a while if no signal was received, which was a pain in the butt for me,it was sorted out on the later ones by giving you the option which wasnt avaliable on mine...nice very small oled display showing sample rate and conversion to:cool:
regards

I might be biased, especially as my last three dacs were by the same maker, but the Beresford Caiman would be my first choice, which indeed it is!

If it's any help, I use a Musical Fidelity V90-DAC which I'm very impressed with for what I paid for it. I use it with the V-PSUII but I had that anyway so no idea if it makes much or any difference.

The latest 'V' products from Musical Fidelty have had good reviews and certainly seem to offer good value.

Go for it. A bit above my budget anyway. I have seen a couple of musical fidelity DACs on eBay go for reasonable money so I think I will try for one of those. Thanks for all the offers
