I think 25 notes is a bargain....its a great bit of kit.....although I dont use it on my Decca or Ikeda cartridges :eek:

Nice win though, they do go for more, and if it is something you want then better to win than lose - (I hate losing ebay auctions if it is something really unusual and rare - especially at the last second)

Its not any where as bad as the one that sold for £180 recently. I never use mine.... Apparently they have been known to vibrate the diamonds of the end of styli.....
I reckon Marco doesn't want to use it for cleaning the end of his styli ;):lol::lol::lol:

Hehehehe... Well, it's a cool little thing and something I've wanted for a while, so I'm quite pleased with my purchase (I'd have gone up to £100) ;)
All I need now is one of those lovely metered Technics tracking force gauges! If anyone sees one for sale, let me know :)

Well, at those prices I'm definitely going to hold onto my little collection of them, all with different brand names.
Actually, I never use the vibrating facility, I just 'stroke' the stylus and if you do that, Lyra have a similar brush for a couple of Quid.:donk:

I also know others who've used them with great success, so I doubt I'll be losing any sleep over the risk of vibrating the diamonds off the end of styli...
Besides, £73 is much better than the £180 reported that some folk have paid! :)

Mine cost me all of £17 in 1980 something and frozen to death and is still going strong, can't believe they don't reintroduce them given the prices they fetch, £180:eek:
P.S. I've got a mint piece of the original Linn green 'sandpaper' somewhere doing nowt, it's all yours for £50 (+postage).

I bought mine at a Bristol Show in 1986 or 7 - it was under £15. Used it a lot except for a period when it was lost after a house move. Very nearly bought another till I saw what they were fetching!
Since I got the RCM though, I don't need it 1/2 as much.

Same here with the VPI, but you get the odd bit of fluff sometimes - and I've grown disillusioned with fluids.
I guess that given the price they go for now one can look at it as an investment :)

I still play the odd disc I've not yet cleaned, so I use the Sticky Hands at the start of a session, a hand held Clearaudio brush for a quick wipe during if necessary. The AT or the Magic Eraser come out when there's stubborn stuff involved.

I'm not saying that they cause any damage it's just that I have found them more effective in 'manual mode' than vibrating. Though I would concede that the vibrating mode is good fun. :flasher:
If a potential buyer is put off by the high cost, Lyra do a small carbon pad, similar to the AT etc. It is manual and a fraction of the cost.

What you really, really need, is a Transcriptor/Michell bubble stylus gauge with all those little pieces of brass to balance on the end. Absolutely stunning retro styling and accurate (apparently) to 100th of a gram.

I use a couple of drops of the AT stylus cleaner on my AT-637 for an occasional proper clean. Otherwise, I leave the stylus well alone.

Effective at beggaring up Troika's as I recall. You cannot beat the AT 607 fluid, which is far better at unglueing welded gunk and all for a tenner still. I rescued my Supexes and OC9 this way....
Well they certainly don't 'beggar up' DL-103s or M3Ds! :eyebrows:
For me, the AT-637 in conjunction with the occasional use of a good non-alcohol based wet stylus clearer, is a great way of keeping a stylus permanently clean - *that* and of course, even more importantly, ensuring that the records it comes into contact with are as pristine as possible, thereby ensuring that no gunk the AT-637 can't effectively remove immediately is deposited on the stylus in the first place! ;)
No serious hi-fi T/T user and lover of music on vinyl should be without a professional RCM - end of. If you can't afford one, do without some other luxury you spend money on regularly and save up for a second-hand machine. Trust me, you won't regret it!

Fair do's Marco, but used ON THEIR OWN as many Linn/Naim people did at the time, they don't work well enough - from personal experience.. and I'm happy to use the AT607 bottle, fluid-n-brush when I have to :)

Make sure it doesn't get into the works, cos you'll be in trouble.
The fact is that nothing causes premature stylus wear more than it having to negotiate manky, dusty, records and then be cleaned every ten minutes as a result...
Remove the biggest source of 'grunge' properly in the first place with an RCM and you'll spend less time cleaning your stylus, prolonging its life (and that of your favourite cartridge) in the process. Even more importantly, your records will last longer too!!
The only reason people have problems with 'grunge' is because their record care routine is not up to scratch.

Dave, I had nothing to lose and SOAKED and brushed dry both the stylus, cantilever AND coils/suspension (the blue tape on the Supex had come away years ago)..
No harm done and I have two working *free* cartridges out of it...:ner:
I wouldn't dare be so cavalier with my Decca though ;)
Am I wrong to never clean my stylus, except an occasional brushing when some dust is visible ?:scratch:

No it's a sticky pad and exceptionally expensive for what you get. However it is effective.
There are cheaper alternatives - much cheaper!

I assume that Nagoka electronic cleaner is probably the same thing as AT just in a different package, or....?
