Serial returners cause problems for shops.

"I return half of what I buy," says 30-year-old Alex Demetri, who spends £500 to £700 on clothes each month.

She also admits to wearing some of her clothes first before returning them.

It is customers like Ms Demetri who are causing problems for shops, which are "struggling to cope" with the amount of items returned, new research suggests.

So-called "serial returners" are bringing back items which have been used, are marked or have parts missing, making a quarter of it unfit to resell.

Yep and this is why we all get charged more because stupid people like her, ridiculous she should be banned from retail shops

Only rarely were we caught out, as most big-ticket sales followed extensive dems, but I do remember one Asian car-salesman who tried to milk us this way and got short shrift.

What Hifi Dave and I had was serial 'demmers,' cyclically travelling to all the North London and nearby Hertfordshire dealers for one dem after another, promising to buy but never shelling out. if they ever bought something, it was used. We had a used Top-End 'emporium' in Old Welwyn at the time and it appeared most of the goods went round all the usual suspects at least once. My ARC SP14 ended up there I remember. These people didn't know that many of us dealers nearby all knew each other and shared notes on the potential 'clients' and their current interests for demonstration. I wouldn't have minded if they just asked for a listen, but these people were highly skilled at making out to be serious right to where a decision was required, upon which they'd go away to 'Think about it.' - yeah, right :(
