Power amp adapter for headphones?

I'm think of getting a set of 'phones that are said to be seriously hard to drive.

Apparently, adapters can be purchased / made to drive normal headphone jacks directly from the speaker output terminals of power / integrated amps.

Anyone know anything about this?
- where to buy etc?

But they allegedly need a lot more power than most standard headphone output sockets can deliver.

Take one stereo headphone socket and connect a wire from left speaker output on amp to left channel solder tag on headphone socket and do the same for the right channel. Then connect a wire from the earth on the headphone socket to one speaker ground/negative/black output on amp;) I believe you can buy adaptors wired as above and in a little box....

I've had a bit of a Google and can't find anything. I was probably using unsuitable search terms. :scratch:

Pioneer used to make a little box. Ah yes, a Pioneer JB21 junction box

Are there any current products that do this? ... something from Maplins maybe?

Think I have one somewhere, a rolls headphone tap. sure its kicking about, but not sure where. there is an ART one too which should be same

If your phones have the now normal 3.5mm plug you'd likely need a standard jack to 3.5mm adaptor as well (dirt cheap).

Careful with these adaptors though.... what you want is a direct connection to your speaker outputs. Many of these adaptors have internal resistors and/or vol control and therefore you would be back where you started with the stock headphone output on an amp (which usually have attenuator resistors fitted).

Aha - totally non-tech though I am, I was wondering about that! :)

Perhaps what I want is a kindly AOS DIYer to knock me up summat in a little box. :whistle:
