They were selling the Cambridge Audio 551p for around £50, sounds ok.

If you are looking for a very cheap short term solution, I have a tiny battery powered phono preamp that is surprisingly good. Let me know if you are interested. You can have it for £11 including postage.

I have a brand new, unused, in it's packaging Project Phono Box MM/MC for £50 - usual price is £80. It's very good.

I've just bought a modified Yaqin MS-22B so have an ART DJPRE II going spare which I could let go for £28 delivered. In great condition and fairly certain I kept the box but would need to check. To be honest I can't hear a lot of difference between the two (probably says a lot about my ears) but have only just got the Yaqin and haven't yet been able to give it time to properly warm up before comparing so going to stick with it.

I also have a modified Yaqin,I think I may stick with that for the time being and see how it sounds with the AIR.

Thanks for the offers guys and taking the time to post, appreciated.

Not sure if they are still supplied with a dubious earthing arrangement but you might want to read this thread on DIY and check - stay safe ;)

TBH this one makes a great job, I had a lot of phono in the past, valve based, SS ala LFD or so...this one is just fine and settings of load really improve the sound.
Even with MM or MC (SUT).
