WTD 1200 or 1210 mk2.

Hi,

Despite having used them in clubs and at house parties for about 10 years when I was younger, I've never used a 1200/1210 in my home system, so I fancy giving one a try.

I know prices can be a bit daft at times but I'm hoping to keep it sensible with a budget of around £200/250. Unfortunately I don't drive so postage would be fantastic. Will pay petrol of anyone lives near Barry and would be happy to deliver.

Is this a bit hopeful?

I bought a mint mint mint one a few weeks ago for £325.

My advice is try and find one that's only been used for hifi use, or least just bedroom dj use.

They do come along like that.


Oh and be warned, once you start reading about upgrades and modifications it starts getting very addictive....and expensive :)

also, if you do want to mod it on a budget, best thing to do is swap whatever DJ cart it comes with (especially if its a Stanton 500al) to an AT95E, about £30.

And if you're handy at DIY then removing the mains transformer and relocating it in a separate box away from the deck doesn't cost much. And if youre really good at DIY then rewiring the tone arm cable is a cheap mod.

But tbh, if you don't want to do all that, just spend 30 quid on an AT95E and enjoy it !

I bought an Sl1200 from a guy on here about 4 months ago for £280 but it meant a 4 hour round trip to collect it. Your budget may be a bit tight but I hope you get sorted soon.

you can still get them for £250, but at that price they tend to scratched and generally battered, but they are tough of course.

just check that the arm and all of its bits are OK

and even a tatty one could be renovated if you've got the time. I saw one on ebay a few weeks ago where the owner had refurbed it, had it powder coated orange...I thought it looked pretty cool tbh :)

In my experience, changing the arm is one of the biggest improvements you can make.

But I wonder is, how does a better arm like a Jelco compare to a standard arm once its been rewired and has a tone arm damper fitted ?

Ive read that then it becomes a small difference ?

you also lose its iconic look, so Im not im in two minds tbh..

I would rather have a good sounding T/T than comprimised sound and iconic looks.
I was lucky with my arm, but I think you can do better than the Jelco, but obviously at a bigger cost.

the looks are important for me as Ive been a DJ all my life, but saying that, if it made a big difference then I would change it.

I have no interest in the upgrade ladder, that was one of the reasons I sold my pretty basic LP12, it was the 'ooh it'll sound so much better with a cirkus' or 'it'll sound so much better with a Lingo' that put me off, I know it was all genuine advice but I found it a bit cultish.

If the 1200 is a bit tatty but works well I can live with it.

Absolutely I will! I'll still the best cart on it I can :)

I've got a much cherished little used Linn Adikt I'd like to pop on it, if I can do it without filing the little guide thingys off it.
