Well I never thought I would ever sell these lovely speakers but I need the cash at the moment for a new project (not hifi related!)
They are in good condition but are not perfect cosmetic wise.... however the drivers are in absolutely perfect condition and they sound fantastic. They have consecutive serial numbers which is unusual for System 800's
I would llike £375 for these superb speakers
As these are quite heavy they are for pick-up only from Portsmouth PO2

Look to be in decent nick Bev. A very good speaker these. One of Tannoy's best efforts in the small stakes. probably their best actually.

Yes Grant they are in pretty good nick, not perfect, but the drivers are all superb and they do sound so good
I didn't think I would ever sell these but needs must :(

Loved my old system 10s, these Tannoy studio monitors definitely have some magic in them. Everyone should try a pair.

Matt I had a pair of the very large System 12/15's (I can't remember exactly which ones they were!) but to be honest I did not get on with them at all.... I find the smaller 800's much better sounding... just my 2p worth though.. :D

I had the more expensive System 1000 and preferred the balance of the 800. The 1000 also had some 'plastic cone colouration', which does not afflict the 800.

I have not heard the 1000's Geoff but certainly the 800's do sound very good indeed.. :)

These are very sensitive speakers at 92dB
I have used them with a valve amplifier of just 10w and that is more than enough to drive them. So they are very easy to drive. Tannoy quote an amplifier upto 180w rms

Hi
If I were to arrange a courier to collect would you be able to package them up safely ?
I'd be looking to use these as for domestic hifi, rather than any mixing type duties ---- I presume comments are based on using them as part of your hifi too ? ... I like ot hear detail but not something that becomes hard to listen to -- only really considering because large 'classic' tannoys are out of my price range at mom but would like to sample some of the tannoy 'magic'
tks

You can buy these with confidence Chris. I've had several pairs and they sound amazing in a Hi-Fi system. They offer 99% of what the big classic Tannoys do.
The imaging is as good as it gets and they pack a punch for their size. Nice transparency too. They are also possibly the most neutral Tannoys I've heard.

That's interesting, are they plastic or paper coned?
Must refresh my ears and try my HPD315's again.

They are plastic coned, but have none of the plastic cone 'honk' that some offer. If, as you say, you want detail. These do it very well and cleanly, I found the top end smoother than the pepperpot drivers like the HPDs and Golds.

tks -- waiting to hear if they can be collected by a courier ----- I'm out for most of the day now -- but am interested especially after positive comments

does anyone know the difference to the tannoy system 8 nfm ii ? Assume it's a later incarnation -- not always improved though !!? no idea what NFM means either ? (near field monitor maybe )
NFM is indeed near field monitor. Can't help you with the rest though.

As I recall the System 8 NFM is an earlier model. A fairly close relative of the domestic DC100 if I'm right, which was no great shakes. The System 800 is a different beast!

Hi Chris
I am really sorry but I don't think I could package these speakers in a way that would be safe for a courier, they are pretty heavy as well
Yes I only used them for hifi duties and they need next to nothing, watt wise, to drive them. I drove them perfectly with the Oto at just 10w and I'm sure you could go much lower than 10w and they would still be just fine
I found the 800' to have bags of detail as you mention you liked but they are definitely not 'hard' to listen to, I would say quite the opposite to be honest
If you fancy coming to sunny Portsmouth we can supply plenty of tea/coffee if that helps :)

That's a shame but I understand -- the weight isnt a problem as long as it would be under 30kg (!) but I'm sure you'll find a buyer ...... I am struggling between these and another pair of speakers so maybe it's meant!
cheers

Tks and GLWTS as I said --- I was very interested in the Auditorium 23/Roeine speakers but after cdhecking the drivers are in need of attention ( and they were more than I wanted to spend really) as am looking to economise, otherwise I'd be keeping my Kudos -- and I still may ----- but I picked up a pair of Blumenstein Triton single/full range driver speakers for a good price --- I've been wanting to try them for a while so we shall see ... but it's good to know there are some decent Tannoys below the 12" gold/hpd level --- something to try another time ---- anyone with experience of Blumenstein i'd be interested to hear (although its a little late I guess ha ha ) http://www.blumensteinaudio.com/all-products/triton-8-inch-fullrange-pair
EDIT --- actually shouldn't hijack thread sorry

Chris those Blumenstein Triton's look lovely and I'd never heard of them before
I've had two pairs of single driver speakers... a lovely pair of Lowther Acousta's, and while the drivers lasted (think they were PM6A's) they were one of the finest sounding speakers I've ever heard but I found Lowther drivers very 'delicate'. The other pair were 6' Voigt Pipes that we made ourselves using Fostex drivers (I think they were FE206's)... which I wasn't so impressed with but it was a very interesting build :D

Funny thing people's taste in speakers. I've had a couple of pairs of Lowther Acoustas. PM6 Mk.i and PM6A if I recall. Although the detail and transient response were fairly striking. I found the top end somewhat brash and the imaging and acoustic depth inferior to the Tannoys I also had. The killer was the upper and lower colouration honks, from the main horn and from reflections through the thin cone. Quite ghastly!

I think so Geoff... but after getting the RS3's, and now the LV's, they both just seem to gel better with me and in my room... I really enjoyed my time with the Tannoys though...
Perhaps one day I will get a larger pair of Tannoys and maybe they will gel better with me but I am no rush at all... ;)

I've heard big tannoys, amazing things, would love a pair in another world.
