Any Recumbent Riders On Here ?

I am on a mission to get fit and loose some weight so thought I'd get back on my bike....

Now while I love my Kona bike I have always had an interest in a recumbent trike... KMX trikes are not far from me and I did try out one of their trikes a few years ago and it was a complete blast!

I am trying to arrange a trial of their top range aluminium trike to see how I get on with it

I was just wondering whether anyone on here had a recumbent of any kind and what they think of it :)

Loved that film... Reminds me of my teenage years. 1981 was my favourite year.

Clare Grogan was quite cute, and had a sexy voice. My favourite line from the film was: "Now *THAT* is what ye call a brassiere!!" :D

I like the scene where the school's camera club is wanting to take photos of the local nurses quarters, hoping to see some of the nurses just wandering around in their undies (as Gregory says "she's wearing a brassiere", as though he's never seen one). They fail and go home. A short while later another group of school chums come along, see what the others have been doing and look up to the window of the nurse's home, where one of them casually says "Ah yes - no knickers" and they wander on without a second thought.

Don't like them. If you're next to a truck or bus, you're too low for them to see and they can flatten you. Also, on a normal bike you use your weight to advantage. you can't on those.

Don't bank on it. They squash enough cars and motor bikes and regular cyclists as it is. I've seen it happen.

On one of those you can't get out of the way quickly. You can with luck, on a normal bike.

I have 4 x 2m LED's Fairy Lights to stitch onto a jacket so I better get started... :) And I have 4 x wheel spoke lights to put on the bike as well... I should shine..... maybe I will win a prize for the brightest :eek:

After selling my Honda m/bike I need a bit of fun which is why I was thinking of a trike recumbent... there are plenty of cycleways around Portsmouth so I think my ass will be fine.... :D

Funny you should mention the Innova (now the Wave I believe) Geoff as I was thinking about getting one... however that won't get me fit and loose any weight.. so a bike it has to be...

Funny you should mention the Innova (now the Wave I believe) Geoff as I was thinking about getting one.

The ANF 125 was called the Wave in foreign markets. Innova in UK. There's a series 1 with carburation and from 2008 series 2 with fuel injection.

The 110cc replacement is called the Wave though, but is not a patch on the original 125.

I am a regular cyclist and cycle 4 or 5 times a week and do an hour to 1.30 each ride. I have to say that the recumbent bikes would really struggle around here. There are no flat rides and not wishing to boast but I regularly cycle to BlackDown the highest spot in W.Sussex at around 850ft, with a rise from home of around 300ft. I like to eat and this enables me to keep a constant weight. It is also a life saver for my depression. Cars, Vans and anything with 4 wheels will try to take you out and I fear for anyone on a recumbent.

I always wonder about cycling after coming across a dead bloke laying next to his bike. Not an accident, a heart attack or stroke I reckon. He was about forty.

Cycled when a teen a lot. Used to go to Loch Lomond and back in a day. Lol i cant do it in car now .:doh: liked running too. Used to do a 6mile hill run twice a week til my mid 30's

Couple of guys in my Office used to ride their "recumbents" across town to work, for years.
Hey, they were still doing it in their early 60's.
Odd Contraptions.. handlebars/steering under one's knees. Monstrously long chains and of necessity festooned with day-glo masts/flags.
They did convert the things to battery power in later years though.
Much like a Lotus I foolishly drove for ~15 yrs, the being eyeball level with the Lug nuts of a Bus.. is a constant concern.

I definitley do not want one for 'attention seeking', far from it, they are just great fun to ride and my back & bum will really appreciate it..

I hate the fact that you can't just step off them in an emergency. Other than that not much use around these parts, way too hilly. But all bikes are good bikes, just recumbents are not for me. I do about 220-250 miles a week. 30 mile daily commute.

If I sell 'loads' of stuff I might still be able to get the trike but as winter is on it's way that means more hifi evenings than bike riding evenings I guess :bike:

My last saddle was a gel type Bontrager model and it's the most uncomfortable saddle my bum has ever sat on... should have got the Brooks a long time ago... :)

This is like my bike... but I now have a nice Brooks saddle... a tiny 14" frame for my short little legs... mine has carbon handlebars and I have road tyres on mine now..
