View Full Version : Member's System Video Thread - Please Post A Video Of Yours!:)
I've decided its 2016 and phone cameras and cameras in general are now so good, even at low cost, that posting system videos is more fun than a set of static photos.
Because of the diversity of camera microphones, and quality thereof, no one should reach sonic verdicts on the capability if someone's system here. It's more about getting a general vibe of someone's setup and room. Obviously a nice mic helps, but it'd be great if you said what you shot the video with.
Feel free to join in.
I've posted a few videos on the site, but this one is fun, as it shows quite clearly what an Apogee bass panel does. Look out for the right hand speaker's panel movements. The left does the same, but it is just a trick of the light angle that allows you to clearly see what happens on the right hand one.
Shot with a Sony RX-100 and its internal mics.

I luv a nice bit of Dub. I have posted vids on here using Bill Laswell. I think that we should all use the same track to see how it sounds on different systems. It is on Spotfy so I will post a vid soon :)
Nice system by the way. Some say that posting vids is pointless because of SQ probs etc. I disagree.
It isn't really intended to be a competition. A talk around various bits of a system, stating why you use the equipment, points of interest etc is equally fine, with no actual music being required.
Since many members will never meet up, I think it is just a way of getting a little closer to other members than forum posts allow.
Also, some kit owned by a lot of members is really quite esoteric. Any increased vibe factor that a video can return, where a 1000 words cannot, is also most welcome.
That said, if you want to post a video of the same track I did, no problem! No rules, anything goes;)
I didn't say anything about it being a competition? If you used the same track you might be able to discern differences in FR or whatever, or maybe not.
Well I think the best test for FR is to play the video against the actual track but rooms etc all come into it too. But the FR of anyone's mic will vary with phone and camera type. So it is all a bit moot.
Anyway, anyone is welcome to try. Give it a go Rob?
Got any links to your exisitng vids?
My brain is tired having just got in. Will see if I can find it tomorrow.

Nice system, shame about the music! ;)
Have you got one of it playing something less 'safe'/plinky-plonky and a bit more challenging?
Marco.
Playing this through my ipad thunderstorm and it sounds very good. Good sense of base as the thing gives that slight vibration on bass notes. Looks interesting to

No.
Man up Marco and let's see yours in action. Just use your phone...
Lol - my phone doesn't even have facility for connecting to the Internet... It just about manages sending texts! :D
Otherwise, "man up", I would willingly do :)
You were planning on swinging by mine for a sesh, before MiBO, so if that's still on, feel free to record away
Yours sounded good, btw!

Should be ok, just need to see what 'the boss' has planned in terms of sorting out the new kitchen we're having fitted. There are all sorts of folks coming and going at the moment. I'll let you know

And your right...played the rest of the album to make up for it. :)
Here's one of my Lampizator open baffles with a few additions. Set up is different now so will post one of the current rig.

Flippin' great loved it.
That Mr Longdog has absolutely nailed amp aesthetics in one fell swoop. That is definitely absolutely first class, especially with the ELROGs. Top marks Nick if your out there! Now build me a 200 Watt version:)
Really looks good with the Denson and Michell, too. Sound comes across nicely on my 2nd system.
What's the music software your using?
That sounded superb rob. Nice musak too

What are the drive units being used in the open baffles? Top ones look a bit Zu like.
Sounds like there's some deep bass going on there as far as I can tell on my 2nd system.
Justin, the mids and hf are Saba Greencones, said to be good for open baffles. The 15" bass bins are Eminence units. Have a look at the Lampizator web pages for details of the build.
Rob - yeah I read all the Lampi DIY stuff a couple of years ago.
Just shot a video of playing your video via my system, then the same track via TIDAL. It is quite surprising how good yours sounds compared to playing the track back direct via TIDAL. Harking back to what you were saying about using the same track.
Will post it later probably.

Good thread this. All the systems sound excellent so far, as much as I can tell through laptop speakers, anyway.

Dragon De Lune is the track by Hadouk Trio. Think the sound meter hits 91.4DB from memory. I didn't post the link because I decided I didn't want to flood the thread with videos of my system.
Those Chatham rectifiers are ridiculous. Can they really stand 900G?

Actually just listened to them. First one is ok. Second starts ok then i must have muffed the microphone :eyebrows: it sounds crap. Sorry about that. I used my canon camera. Quicker and better pic than the iphone but not so easy to handle with only one hand :eyebrows:
Hair by Marco?:D;)
Indeed... he scared it grey and rigid ;)
Norah Jones sounded great.
Suitably "floaty" piano ticked all the right boxes for me!
The "Tele Twins" speakers sounding big n rich, but (importantly) nice n clear too.
So, this is a first for me! Be gentle!

Thanks Marco!
However, now it does not work in TapaTalk or in Safari on a "proper computer"! (A Mac that is ;))
It doesnt matter to me though, but i had to look at Grants films using Firefox.

Haha, i dont think so, your system both sounded very good and looks very nice!
Its difficult to capture good audio and vide with either the phone or the cheapy Rollei GoPro-clone... Will try again in better light!
Thanks Marco, but now it does not work in TapaTalk or in Safari on a "proper computer"! (A Mac that is ;))
It works here perfectly on my Mac Pro! So no idea what the problem at your end is, mate.
Can everyone else not using TapaTalk play the videos Mike's posted on YouTube, directly from here?
Marco.

Ah, i see! Thats true, in Safari i didnt get the "direct play", but when you embed the video i think it wants a plugin of some kind.
As i said though, i can go use Firefox, no problem!

Just caught this Justin, sorry!
Great idea for a thread, why didn't someone think of this before!
Nick could build you something that does 200 watts...but need to be push-pull not SET... :mental:
8 Watts is all you need!
Software is ROON.
https://roonlabs.com/
Run Roonserver (no UI version of it) on my windows based Server, and seperate control app on the Ipad to select music.
Less bloat than the UI desktop version...always a good thing in my computer audio opinion.
Works on the Android phone too.
Black Dragon Dac looks great btw...can tell difference in sound between 1st and second systems.
Nice turntable btw :)
Is it me only? but I have not been able to view any of the videos, Do I have to amend any of my details?
Might need to set up flash player from adobe. Or there are browser add on s
Yeah I had to go to web version of this page as none of the videos would play or jump to YouTube to play via Tapatalk.
If not working in Tapatalk just go to the browser version of the thread ;-)
They are all working on ipad through safari for me at moment. Or at least the ones ive tried today...mine and robs. Do you get any errors?

Thanks Gary,
sorry bout the lousy audio though.
You're a Roon user so you saw i transferred the play queue to the main rig! :) I realized that is not very clear ;)
added a vid to mine for people like mike who were not able to access it... see if this non desktop one works
Thanks all,
Stunning equipment, Its never quite the same listening to the systems online on my laptop or tablet as opposed to listening whilst in the room but at least it gives a good impression and I like to see room layouts.
I have noticed That I have no problem viewing the video on Chrome but Explorer will only show links to youtube, If that helps.
Thank again

Just checked this out. With the camera so low its picking up a shed load of bass that makes it sound way more ballsy than the original recording. Nice. I think I prefer it to listening to the original on TIDAL on my 2nd system!;)
Sister Havana by Urge Overkill if anyone is wondering.

Many thanks for your comments, and assistance with linking the video properly.
I think my narration helps in that it explains how, why and when I got to this point in my audio 'journey' so to speak. Also, it illustrates that I'm as befuddled as the next person when it comes to putting a system together and the hard yards (and numeous wrong turns) involved in tweaking it, so that it morphs into something that actually plays music. You would be amazed how much difference something as basic as the year of manufacture of a Svetlana rectifier valve makes to the sound!
The Rega DAC R is still burning in and being assessed, but it's beginning to look like a no-brainer for the money. Not sure it improves on the CD player, but it does give a completely different perspective. The main reason for it's acquisition is to get a foothold in computer based hi rez audio, so currently researching appropriate software for that purpose. Hysolid is currently in play, and sounds much better than JRiver, but it doesn't rip cds. Anyway, i'm open to suggestions regarding the best media players
By the way, the rack was bought second-hand as-is, from a chap in Birmingham. It was a great price too, the penalty being a 200 mile round-trip collection one night after work! The cabinet belongs to the wife, picked up from an antique furniture dealer in Stockport and is a thing of beauty.

Heres one for ya, even worse sound than the last one, but nevertheless:
https://youtu.be/e19P48YHo4Y
A couple of years ago i bought a Lehmann Audio Black Cube Linear clone from eBay. This was put together with a 60VA toroid trafo and sounds really, really good for its money!
After a couple of weeks i decided to try and reuse an old cassette deck as a better looking case for the headphone amp. Said and done, an old broken Pioneer CT-200 donated it's chassi. Everything worked fine and i used the rec level as volume control, the headphone output as it was meant and also connected the power to the chassis main switch.
After some months i got a DAC board free as part exchange. This was one of the well known MiniDAC 2496 (CS4396) which were raved about on diyaudio etc. I decided to add this into the chassis too. So for a couple of years iv'e had this as my main headphone rig, fed with digital signal from all kinds of sources.
And finally, i’ve got my act together and got the VU meters working! I bought an adjustable VU Meter driver board from eBay and have spent my day getting this to work!
Oh, some time back the OPAmp in the DAC and the headphone amp was changed for LME49720HAs with major improvement in the sound quality. That was nowhere near the improvement i got with the Burson Audio discrete dual OPA V5 in the headphone amp though!
The whole unit is fed with Roon Bridge in the form of a Raspberry Pi with a Hifiberry Digi+ Pro.
And believe me, i have considered transplanting a Pi to it and just have power and ethernet connectors on the back!

Yes. I know the Quads & Tannoys should make some nice noises.
Can't make out a lot from your video though Roy. Try strapping an LED torch or work light to the side of your mobile or camera, then we can maybe see things a bit better.
Great vids so far !!! Will the quality of the microphone make a fair bit of difference to how good each video sounds??
Just a thought
Probably not much. Once on u tube they are compressed down anyway.
