The magnets look interesting. With four, you'd virtually have a circular magnet. That could be used to make a planar ring super tweeter. As long as you know how to etch a 'coil' circuit onto some aluminised mylar (silver gift wrapping).

The best bit of a hard drive for hi-fi use is the bearing. If you are into DIY, they can be used for making your own tone arms. I've made three or four now and still use the 12" arm in the pic in preference to my Origin Live modded RB250. Very free running indeed although they run best in the opposite direction to that needed on an arm, they are still really good.
