I have a purpose built power supply that was designed for the Auralic Mini that I no longer use.
Linear and regulated and a massive difference from the supplied PSU. £75 delivered.

I have always been a little worried about 'safety' with self built PSU's. I have been looking at a few online but everyone always says 'be careful, they don't look safe'.

Could you post a few pictures of it (outside and inside)?

Yes PSU's are relatively simple things to make.
If concerned I have a Swagman linear PSU that he made specially for my Auralic with 16VDC 1.6 amp. It's the SE version and retails for £250 +VAT and duty.
