Well it's rained on and off today. Who can guess whether October will be better?

October has started with a bang here. Thunder, lightning and pissing down. Let's hope it's not a precursor for the rest of the month.
Rained a bit last night, but no thunder and lightening. This morning it's dry and overcast, although there are patches of the sky where the sun's trying to break through.

Drizzling here. A bit nippy. Just been down the shop for some milk. Nothing much going on except the usual bunch of foreigners wandering about aimlessly. The rain does not appear to deter them from this pursuit.

Still very blue and sunny here, but cold
I guess they are Eastern Europeans. I suppose it is their custom. Don't have an issue with it but as a typical English person I go out the house to get things and then go straight home again, so I find it curious. It isn't a pretty area and there is rarely anything of interest to see so I don't really understand the point. Especially when it's raining.
Cant say ive noticed that around here. Its usually to cold for that .lol. Even the huddles of smokers outside pubs seems to have vanished
That's because we've re-established the illegal drinking dens where you can smoke indoors :)

Just a light shower of rain today. Mostly cloudy with Sunny intervals. Haven't had proper rain for months, so the garden is still like a desert.
Been one of the nicest days for some time here. Sunny all day with almost no breeze. Still its cold out of sun and barely warm in it. Best period was 2 til 4. October is nearly winter here mind in comparison to down south, so not to be sneezed at.

Rarely does it piss down here for two days in a row, and so normally a near-full day of rain is rewarded by a following day of sun - and today is no different... Clear blue skies and bright sunshine greet me this morning, as I sip my morning cappuccino!
It's also pleasantly warm in the sun, so looks like we'll be able to have a barbecue later :cool:

Dry and sunny this morning with just a light breeze. Quite a nip in the air first thing though and looking good for the rest of the day. If I can find enough energy might paint the garden gate. :)
Sunny again here so far. Same as yesterday. Here there is a hurricane on way to Florida, so hoping my daughter gets away before it hits. Fortunately we dont get many of those
Jeez - we're sitting outside on the patio having lunch, and in the direct sun (which we're not in) the temp measures 24°C, and that's in North Wales in October! :eek:
Inside the house, it's currently 18°C. Such a contrast from yesterday...

It is a good place for me to get some exercise as it is mostly level along there.
Neighbour and I have been barking the garden. Not barking at ;). Well, he did most of it but was nice to get out and kid on i was working lol
That cheap shop, whos name escapes me were selling 50lt bags of bark for 50p a bag... got 6 and did my section at side at back of house..its the bit i see when i go out.nice when it looks nice..nice smell, bark too.
Weather has been ok for just a thick shirt as long as your moving about a bit. Still sunny and dry

Glorious here again. Got a friend visiting from the North East who insists he needs a jacket when we go out then ends up sweating his b*****ks off.
Was a warm afternoon, and got stuck into the vicious hawthorns....well I flung my neighbour in there and gave him some secateurs to get out again;)

It's been like spring here today, sunny and pretty warm for the time of year, around 17°C, so went into Shrewsbury to do some shopping, whilst my car was in the specialist garage I use in Oswestry for an engine-remap modification (performed by a technician who does work for NASCAR).

Turned out nice again. Got a bit more done in garden and painted and fixed my neighbours shed, the side onto my garden that shows. Glued, screwed and painted. Nice to return the favour

That's exactly as it is here. Was pretty chilly this morning, but has warmed up nicely now, although there is still that cool breeze, which reminds you that it's autumn, not summer. Nice, healthy weather! :)

Seasonal Affective Disorder - people top themselves in the winter as they get depressed. Okay takes more than a bit of darkness but it is widely regarded as a contributing factor.
It is the combination of cold and dark that does me. One or the other I'm fine with, both together gets a bit wearing by the time Xmas is over.
Knew someone who suffered from that badly. She went off her head quite frankly. It can be a disease. She tried to top herself a few times tmk. May have succeeded as ive not heard of her for some years.. sad, indeed. The dark affects everyone to an extent, but it doesnt especially depress me, its the lack of garden time the winter gives that depresses me more. All those colours, smells etc lift your heart. And there is nothing like the sun on you back to cheer you up.
It gets to me. I started taking daily vitamin D pills earlier in the year, will see if that makes a difference this time round. Could be placebo of course but an outcome's and outcome :)

It's been windy here for the past few days, a cold easterly. Calmer today with bright spells although there has been a few spots of light rain earlier this morning. The nights are certainly drawing in now and it's all a bit depressing.
Its cleared up again and blues sky and sun... im off to enjoy a bit of it
Another lovely bright (and reasonably warm) sunny day, here in Wrexham! Just about to have lunch outside on the patio.
Today, it's mustard-coated fillet of Welsh Black beef, served with a rich red-wine jus, chanterelles mushrooms sautéed in butter and garlic, fresh spinach, carrot batons and hasselback potatoes - yum, yum! :)
Wine is a rather fine bottle of Chateau de Cor Bugeaud, Blayes Côtes de Bordeaux, 2014. Laters, amigos! :cheers:

About 45F/7C outside now. I give it a two or three or weeks until the first frost here.
Like yesterday, another gloriously sunny day here, with blue skies above - and the forecast is for it to be like this all day long, with temps rising to 15°C... Yay! :yay:

Our weather has broken down. Yesterday it went to on off drizzle.. today its similar. Think i got a chill trying to get my battery charged lol. Im fitting a charger into car:eyebrows: so i can give it overnight trickle charges when needed without it being a major operation.

Pretty much the same here as yesterday, dry, sunny and pleasantly warm (for the time of year), as I can attest to from just being out in the garden in my t-shirt and shorts, hopefully giving the grass its final cut before the winter! :)

I have spent the afternoon scarifying part of the lawn in the sun with occasional clouds. It looks rubbish now but I'm hoping my effort will pay off.
We still have not had any real rain since July, just an occasional 30 second light shower.
That's quite impressive, Dave, from an 'enjoying the climate' POV, but not so good for the garden! ;)
The vast majority of the rain we get here falls at night, leaving most days enjoyably dry.

Been fairly cold here again. a bit brighter than yesterday. even so Ive had door and window open for fresh air, so not too bad
Chilly here and starting to rain as I got in from work. Windy too. Down filled winter coat has now been deployed and will stay deployed until April, at least.
Can't we do a swap, this country for one of the Caribbean islands? Maybe throw in some cash to sweeten the deal? They might not go for it but has anyone even asked them?

Started off grey and dizzly today, but later turned into a lovely dry and sunny day, with temps peaking at 18°C!
Went into Shrewsbury with Del, and had a lovely lunch at one of our favourite haunts, The Golden Cross: http://www.goldencrosshotel.co.uk/content/food.html
Then she went shopping for some new dresses (I was jealous, haha), and we bought a load of booze for Christmas from Tanners, the highlight of which was this little chap, which when the time comes we'll enjoy with Del's awesome home-made mince pies and Christmas cake:

That looks the biz, Grant. I find that the stock GM can be a little bit 'fiery', so hopefully the ported version makes it smoother. I like a smooth, rounded-tasting whisky, low on peatiness - basically, the polar opposite of Laphroaig! :)

do a Sherry cask too, which I think I preferred. Its very nice. Not cheap these days it seems but you often used to get it reduced in the likes of Tesco and Morrisons

The sherry-casked or ported ones are the only whiskies I'll drink, as I enjoy the smoothness and very slight hint of sweetness. Dalwhinnie is another fav of mine, and reasonably priced, too!

It was nice here in sunny Portsmouth... that was until I went for a bike ride and then it absolutely was torrential rain.. I got soaked.. :doh:

Thunder, lightning early hours and absolutely slashing it. Sun now made an appearance. Cold easterly given way to south-westerly so a less cold feel to the air. :)

That's interesting, as most folks who are heavily into wine, like you, enjoy most other wine-based drinks, port being one. I'm not so much into it with Stilton, although I can enjoy it that way, but more with certain cakes and biscuits - mice pies being a particular favourite, as the richness of the fruit combines beautifully with the aromatic flavours of the port!
I also like sherry as an apéritif, but a dry one, served chilled with some canapés. We got this rather lovely Tio Pepe yesterday, for that very purpose, from Tanners:

Had some amazingly heavy squalls of rain when I was down on the Kent coast earlier today.
wet most of day here, and air quality very poor/ ah well, hopefully there is always tomorrow. I'll be off early to hospital on my monthly trip, so will pop in to Lidl for a looksee.
Pretty similar to yesterday, started off raining and ended up dry and sunny for the vast majority of the day - can't complain! :)

Had a trip to Poole yesterday. Sat on the Quay in the sun, absolutely beautiful - until the showers started. Ah well, not bad for mid-October. This morning cloudy with a fresh south-westerly to blow he cobwebs away. :)
Had a storm last night, but its sunny and calm at moment, although chilly
Exactly as it is here. Temperature aside, it's like a spring morning! :)

It's been a pretty decent day here. Bright and breezy. Not to cold. I finished valeting a car I need to sell and got some good photos in the sun :).
Rained heavily most of day with brief sunny intervals. Managed to do a couple of small tasks during them.cold wind too

Bright and sunny this morning. Cold easterly wind (again). Cloudy and chilly this afternoon.
It's been lovely here for the last few days, mostly dry and sunny, with just that nice crisp nip in the air, which I love at this time of year :cool:
Starting to think about Christmas now... Yesterday, we bought some goodies from the supermarket to put away for the festive period, and today we lit our new multi-fuel burning stove for the first time, which works great!
Time to cosy-up and get prepared for the long dark nights ahead... :)

Yep it's getting slowly colder each week now. Me thinks this will be a chilly winter this year? As long as it stays dry I am quite happy.
Sitting next to a nice log fire at the moment after a roast chicken dinner with all the trimmings and enjoying a macchiato!
Chilly here but dry. Just had a spag bol with no trimmings, now sitting next to a radiator enjoying a roll-up.

Bit bleak out there at the moment. Overcast and chilly. According to the 'Accuweather' London forecast, the rain starts here in eight minutes.
Dry and bright, but a little overcast here. Not really any colder than one would expect for the time of year. No sign of rain at the moment :)

There's been very little rain here for a number of days. The only thing that's changed markedly from last month is the temperature drop!

There has been very little rain here also. The wind has been mostly from an easterly direction. At this rate there will be snow on the ground as the winter approaches. :)

Bit of a coincidence Dave. I was going around my lawn this morning scarifying and seeding bald areas (yes you can still do this in October :)).
Quite satisfying to see that the 'repairs' I made to my lawn are working. Despite the increasing chill, the grass is sprouting well.
Nice sunny day(first dry day for a while) today and relatively warm, but cold wind appeared about 5ish.. damn chilly now lol

Dull. Dampish, but milder here.
Today was lovely, dry and sunny, and in the sun, pretty warm for the time of year! Managed to get a few things done in the garden and went for a nice walk in the local park, in between looking after Del, who's recovering slowly from the flu.
Hopefully tomorrow she'll be well enough for us to go to the pictures and for a nice meal in the evening :cool:
