How is this right ? - Gas/Elec quote

Got this quote from British Gas today as my Fixed rate ends at the beginning of December

Tariff Comparison Rate 3.38p per kWh 3.61p per kWh

Standing charge goes from 26.00p to 26.01p so how come they are quoting that the new rate is less yet the standing charge AND kWh rate is up too ??

Personal Projection £742.68 £645.44
Tariff Comparison Rate 11.06p per kWh 12.50p per kWh

Now when I was at school, and even now :lol:, 271209 x 3.61p is definitely more than 27109 x 3.38p, same as 5764 x 12.50p is more than 5764 x 11.06p

Bizzare. I just moved to Sainsburys energy via uswitch... got a very good deal i think. Try them and dont give your usage. Just size of house and personel etc.

Oddly i got a similar letter from edf. I had been paying X for a year and had in fact overpayed a bit and gone though a full autumn and winter at that. They said fuel prices had dropped since my last contract and thus had decided i was to pay MORE this next deal. :mental: i told them to shove it where sun rarely shines

Funny this should come up. I was just contemplating moving my gas and electricity business to CoOp. They already provide my phone and broadband cheaply.

What I don't like/understand is that a company can give you a 'quote' but at the end of the year you can still owe them money. Do they just make up quotes to attract customers ?

One word of advice is don't go for Extra Energy. They are the pits for customer service and satisfaction.
