AUDIO TECHNICA AT630 Step Up Transformer

Designed for use with AT moving coil cartridges, but works well with most 'normal' spec carts (less than 20 ohm coil impedance). I used with Denon 103 and (even) a SPU. Good intro into the world of SUTs :D

There's not a lot on the web about either of these products unfortunately, which may explain why they are not selling.

To my ears, the Sugden sounds like a 'half-way house' between a solid state phonostage and a valve one, if that makes any sense? Nice tone and texture, with plenty of detail and dynamics. Like all Sugden gear, it is well engineered with low background noise. If only I had a use for it, I'd keep it :hmm:

The scarce info on the web regarding the AT 630SUT is a bit vague. Having used it extensively in my second system, I'd estimate that its gain is somewhere in the region of 10 to 15x, giving a loading on the cartridge of approx 200 0hms. I can say with certainty that it works well with the Denon 103, and would assume it'd be excellent with AT and other normal low output mc's, too.

In terms of the quality of sound on offer, I reckon both are worth more than the asking price. If anyone wants a demo, send me a pm.
