Hi there,
I've just set up a Thorens td150 with a SME 3009 series 2 (later version, not improved) Shure v15 typeii attached. Sounds great but I've found the instructions regarding tracking weight and bias weight setting difficult to follow.I'm following instructions from manual found on analogue-classics.com.
The instructions are alot more basic than found in later model instructions and there is a lack of visuals to provide guidance.
With regards to tracking weight that seems simple enough. 'After balancing, tracking force is applied by moving the rider weight forward along the way rod. With the whole rider weight each graduation represents 1/2 gram at the stylus. 5 grams full scale. With the front removed each is 1/4 gram, 2 1/2 grams full scale'.
So I'm fairly certain (but not positive)with the front weight removed ive set the tracking weight at the desired 1.25 grams.
My real confusion is with regards the bias weight setting.
The manual states (with no visual guide) ' Position the loop in the groove corresponding to the tracking force being used. Each represents 1/2 gram and remains so with either the whole or half rider weight. Use the first one closest the pivot arm for 1/2 gram, the third for 1 1/2 grams etc. For 1/4 grams use the next higer setting.'
I just don't understand that last sentence. It states each each groove represents 1/2 gram. That says to me that I'm not able to set it at the desired 1.25grams, ive got it currently set on the third groove which represents 1 1/2 grams. But the instructions do state 'For 1/4 grams use the next higher setting' What does this actually mean? I am thinking that the bias weight must be able to be set in 1/4 grams but that I am misreading something. What is the next higher reading? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
