Anyone on AoS enjoy Robert Cray's music?

Been a fan of his for many years, here's the things I love:

Tone, tone and more TONE. Has a clean Stratocaster every sounded so good? Saw him live in Belfast a long time ago and from the very first note his guitar tone was devastating (2 x Matchless half stacks), yum. Great night.

He's a one man band - makes his guitar sound like an orchestra; gorgeous jazz/funk rhythm playing and cutting, soaring lead (his blues lead only bettered by the Iceman IMHO).

Funkadelic, catchy rhythms, he LOVES a funky grooove.

Soulful voice. This is one guitar player who can genuinely communicate with his voice too.

Original song writing and style, rather than an endless regurgitation of the classics. Tends to seek a 50's style, feel and tone but writes a mix of soul and blues and just good, electric guitar based music. He's all about the song rather than just delivering blistering solos.

Great recording quality on his albums too.

Been playing these two today :)

I have a good number of his albums, and I like them a lot.
I did see him at Manchester Apollo many moons ago - the sound and the playing were wonderful, but the repartee? It was a bit like attending a lecture in that respect.

He was a nice guy the night I saw him, mind you he was very appreciative that anyone had shown up at all as by a cruel twist of fate the Eagles were playing Belfast the same night. In Belfast that's akin to two UFO's turning up at the bus stop at once - pretty rare occurrence. Don't know if either have been back since

Ive a big collection of Blues John. sell a few records from time to time here as well, as I ve been trimming the collection. Albert King was one of my favorites in the electric side. Acoustic, well Big Bill Broonzy, Mississippi John Hurt, Blind Willie McTell etc. But like most blues tbh. Been collecting all my days

Love Albert King. Did you ever see the Night of the Blues with Albert and B.B., SRV, Clapton, Dr. John etc?

It's excellent :)
