Hi Guys

I watched the one of special last night and found it much enjoyable and love the original series if your a fan and have not seen it its on BBC I player worth checking out if your a past fan.....would be great to see them do a new series as people would love it.....

I love all Nick Lydhursts work from Only Fools through to After You've gone....

How many of you watched it.....:) im guessing none as your all pissing about with your HI-FI's :lol:

I watched it. It wasn't bad.

I saw a fair few of the original series, Lyndhurst has to carry it a little sometimes, but he is good enough to do that. Worth a watch.

I get the feeling the bbc is looking at the ratings with a view to commissioning these old series cos the overpaid writers can't think of anything decent to write.

Got it on hard disc together with the Young Hyacinth. I am looking forward to watching both although I did not fancy the "Are you being served" and "Porridge" one off sitcom's

I thought it was 'ok' but only just... the sets were pretty awful back in the 90's but this new one looked even worse.

The one off 'Porridge' was quite good... the original writers too, Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais.

OK, they were funny in the original. The re-make was, absurdly, 'updated' to 1988, solely it seems so they could include references to Amstrad computers.

I used to work in a place where the senior manager would come in to hand out long service awards and such like, and would always begin his speech with 'You've all done very well.' Used to make me laugh but most of the workforce were too young to get the joke and just assumed it was a genuine comment.

OK, I agree I was being harsh. 'Are You Being Served?' was very popular in the USA, and I once asked an American why that was. She said it was because the Americans loved the subtle British sense of humour. To this day I don't know whether she was being serious or taking the piss.

I was amazed to see, looking on IMDB, that the programme staggered on until 1985, so the update to 1988 seems slightly less bizarre. I'd assumed it had lasted until maybe the late '70s; certainly I never saw any of the later series.

Well, I never really liked the original series... I was too young to watch it so I got the repeats in the 80's. The best thing was the theme tune, it's really cool.

The new one was awful, but yes... compared to modern stuff like Miranda (who is as funny as a mouth ulser) or Mrs. Browns Boys (that's as funny as two mouth ulsers) it was much better.

Comedy is a very individual thing. I find much modern comedy to be quite the opposite: snide, "in your face", unsubtle and quite frankly, not funny. But then that's just me.

Y'see, I like Miranda and loathe Mrs Brown's Boys (though given the AoS transvestite meme I can see how it might appeal to some on here). I like off-beat stuff like Mighty Boosh and early Reeves and Mortimer, and mostly dislike 'gentle' humour like 'Last of the Summer Wine', 'The Vicar of Dibley' and 'Citizen Khan'.

As the mighty HMHB put it:
