View Full Version : NVA TSS Power Amp - £75 - Spares Or Repair

Ninanina

I am selling this on behalf of Colin who purchased the TSS (The Second Statement) from James (Sovereign)

It went back to James as it went faulty and so far has not had a successful repair

Therefore it is now up for sale on a 'Spares or Repair' basis

When the TSS was working it was an absolutely wonderful sounding amplifier

I am sure someone on here could make a successful repair to it but please do not ask what needs repairing as neither myself or Colin know the answer to that, thanks for understanding

It has to be worth £100 for somebody to have a 'tinker' with

This is to be paid for by Paypal 'friends/family' to Colin BEFORE being picked up. This is to be picked up from James in Maidstone

Hi Bev,

Surely NVA would repair it?

It's certainly a bargain though at £100.

Marco.

P.S Who's James?

I have no idea if NVA would repair it and to be honest neither myself or Colin is interested in going down that route so £100 it is, and as you say it's a bargain at that ;)

That has to be worth getting sorted Bev.

I suspect it may be tricky to deal with as there may be bonded joints in the housings, but there is nothing that cannot be serviced or repaired.

Thanks Geoff but to be honest Colin just wants it gone.. so a bargain price for someone who has the 'knowledge'...

Okes, no worries. So who's Paul? Try as I might, I don't see how he fits into the equation.... Was he the extra one who made up the 'threesome'? :D

Marco.

Paul ?? If you mean James then that's Sovereign, here on AoS, and he is the chap that originally sold the TSS to Colin and then he had the amp back as it went faulty. James (Sovereign) still has the amp and as it's not worth us picking it up (not for the £100 asking price!) it is to be picked up from James in Maidstone... hope that makes sense... :)

Marco
02-09-2016, 06:51
Yes it does. Don't know where I got Paul from (it was late last night), as I wrote James the first time I asked the question. The identity of the 'mysterious James', however, as mentioned in your opening post, has now been revealed (as I see you've now put 'Sovereign' in brackets)! ;)

Good luck with the sale

Depends on whats been used to bond it. Obviously there is somethong you can use to debond it but not knowing does make it tricky.
Its a good price even for the parts though.

It's been back a few times,NVA will not entertain fixing it again.

Ah, I see. Wonder what's causing it to go wrong so often? :hmm:

Anyway, the components inside alone are probably worth £100, so regardless, it's still a bargain, especially as Jez, or one of our other resident EEs would sort it!

sorry i got it wrong, ive copied this from another site which clears things up,
It has never been back to NVA for repair .

it was sold to an ex-friend of the docs, Alan Brown for a much reduced price on the grounds it was a prototype and would never be sold .
when Brown tried to sell it ,doc warned potential purchasers that the seller had broken an agreement , it was never meant for resale and to discourage the sale said he would never service it or mend it .
Low and behold it broke shorltly after sale and this is were we are .Ninanina and colin and soverign are fully aware it cannot be returned to NVA for repair and were arses for buying it and re-selling it .

This is a prototype model not for sale or re-sale .

Selling items is always tricky.. ;)

The NVA has been offered to Al so he has first refusal on the amp, I think that's the proper and correct way of doing things

I have PM'd Al and also emailed him directly

I think I'll give it until 23:00 tonight and if I havn't heard back from Al by then the amp will be offered to the next interested person, which is Kev at the moment

Do you all think that is a 'fair' way of handling things?

I'm confused at to how there is no interest in someone's working Hafler amp at £50 but loads in a spares or repair at £100

A Hafler ain't a bad amp at all in any shape or form and I bet they're very easily serviced as some came to the UK in retail *kit* form I remember. Like me though, it's old and largely forgotten now.

Well I've had no response from my PM to him so as far as we are concerned it's back up for sale, I think that's reasonable

This time it's on a 'first come, first served' basis... ie. first one to pay the meager £100 asking price gets this amp

I have been more than fair with people and hitherto have been let down a bit

I have just skimmed through this thread, there is a lot of misinformation here; there is also people pasting comments from [a banned forum] which muddies the waters even further, and it has become a bit like the blind leading the blind. Lets not be like lemmings believing all that we read.
I thought I would just clear up a couple of points:
The amp IS working and it has been for maybe nine months or so. The amp failed and was repaired. An EE friend of mine repaired it and when he was listening to it he mentioned that he heard a slight crackle from one channel and asked me to listen through my system to see what I thought as his hearing is not the best as he has partial hearing in one ear, but his wife said it was spot on and clear as a bell. I have never got round to running it through my system as I have spent much of this last year in hospital. Anyway, I just rigged the amp up to some spare speakers and all is good, I am always impressed how good this amp sounds.

I have posted a video below of the amp working 30 minutes ago, as you can tell I am no videographer  (EDIT) The video is taking bloody ages to upload, when It's done I'll post it, maybe tomorrow)
I'll also say, contrary to some of the miss information on this thread that has been written by people who have never tried to fix an NVA amp; NVA amps are probably the easiest amps to fix due to their incredibly simple design, all credit to RD here for this approach, it is this simple design which goes a long way in making NVA amps sound as good as they do. If an engineer can't fix an NVA amp then he needs to find another profession, even a competent DIY'er could give it a shot. There is a lot more I could say to bring clarification but I'll save my breath as it were.

So here we have a working prototype reference TSS NVA amp that sounds blisteringly good, going for £100!

Justjon

I'll take it and will collect next weekend.
If Colin can send payment details, I'll pay first thing in the morning (now off to bed).

Thanks
Edit..
Decided against this and have sent PM.
I'm not comfortable buying something that in my opinion should never have been up for sale in the first place (not that I'm blaming Bev for that)

It's only a £100 ffs ! I send a PM late the other eve just asking for a contact number and and address to arrange collection from Maidstone, hell the tech guy giving it the once over only lives up the road near the Maidstone hospital
I get a reply requesting payment first ( which I was already aware of so no problem ) I don't think asking for the collection address and a contact number was unreasonable ?
I the NEED an address to collect the amp from or am I missing somthing here ?
I was at my sons wedding in Folkestone all day yesterday and have only just got back home - I don't spend my whole life on a HIFI forum ........... If the amps gone now it's really no big deal ....but why the hell all the fuss and bother over £100 amp,it's truly beyond me

Jamie it is not confusing at all...

Like I said "If the amp is working I guess that's a bonus for someone" but neither myself or Colin has had anything to do with the repair/s so cannot vouch for it so we are being 'responsible' and selling it as 'spares or repair'...

I don't know what else to say to people and to be honest Colin has 'lost the will to live' over this 'For Sale' thread...Colin's view of forums is not very high and will not get involved with them, hence why I listed it, and he has always said I should leave forums alone; I actually don't agreee but I do see his point ;)

If the amp is not sold within the next few days it will be removed from sale, we will collect it from James, and it will probably be crushed into many little pieces by Colin.... which would be a shame considering the quality of sound on offer for £100..

Thanks James for agreeing to have the buyer contact you directly, once the amp is paid for, to arrange a time/date etc to pick the amp up.. Involving myself or Colin would only confuse the issue and we would only be 'piggy in the middle' :)

After chatting to Colin he's asked that if the amp hasn't been paid for by Thursday 8th September evening then I am to remove it from sale and that will be forever. I think that is enough time for any truly interested party. This thread has now had over 4,000 views and 58 replies so I think it's run it's course

Obviously if the amp has been paid for, but not yet collected by that date/time, that's perfectly fine

Just as a reminder this is NOT for cash on collection as James does not own the amp, Colin does.. just to clear up any misunderstanding ;)

As it will cost about £25 in petrol for us to pick the amp up from James I am reducing the amp to £75

After this time we will indeed pick the amp up but it won't be up for sale again
