View Full Version : I've been after one of these for ages
Orsonic AV-101s.
It's a great match with my NWA DL103 and Jelco 750. In fact it's the only headshell I have found that enables me to setup at Baerwald.
All the others will not take the stylus tip far enough forward and so forcing the OEM Jelco null points - which is no big deal.
However, as the cartridge has captive threads and the finger lift of the Orsonic has threaded holes I had to oh so slightly open up the holes to allow the mounting bolts to pass.
The slight "toe-in" is because I use the MINT! tractor to align the stylus not the cartridge body.
The tags are not OEM - I replaced them with Cardas 33 from BAC
Sounding lovely and looks the muts nuts if you are into eye kandy

Is there a purpose to having the two rails other than it looks cool, as it doesn't look like the front section with the cartridge mounting slots slides on the rails and adjustment is the same as any other head shell with slots.
Go half way down this page and there is a photo showing how it slides along the track ... http://www.audioasylum.com/cgi/vt.mpl?f=vinyl&m=963582
It's described elsewhere as an 'anti-vibration' headshell.

Wow that cartridge body looks real cool...is this a special order from NWA?
It looks like the malachite body that CalaMighty used to supply.
Certainly looks nicer than the big aluminium cartridge bodies available elsewhere.

I'm intrigued by this, so I've just bought one from a well-known auction site. Its main trick seems to be the very large degree of overhang adjustment available, but does it sound any good compared to an Oyaide or the (very expensive) Acoustical Systems Arche 5D?

Spot on Stuart - it is indeed a special rounded Uwe malachite from Cala. Dom at NWA worked his majic on a stock Denon DL103 (new cantilever/stylus/coil windings and potted into the body

Hi Hugo - well to answer your question I just sold my 2 Oyaide headshells. The Orsonic/Denon is a keeper combo and my other cart is a Goldbug Brier that has integral headshell. I do have a Zyx R100 currently in an AT shell but I've still not found the ideal partner for it.
The Orsonic is a great match for the Denon. The sound is more open and bass more extended and as you allude to the additional overhang adjustment means I can setup to Baerwald which was impossible with the Oyaide/Jelco combo.

I've been looking out for a new headshell. Hmm  These ones on Ebay don't look the same as yours.
