Think the main issue with the Audiophonics one is getting the screen working properly. I know someone on here has tried and no joy.

Personally don't see the benefit in the screen as it's so small, the power off button however looks very handy.

Also, what is the point of having the display at right angles to the IR reader? Otherwise it looks like a steal.

Still prefer mine in its little wooden box I think. Feel the screens are more work than benefit, at least to me. But if you are to go that way, then its half the price of the audiophonics one, so a good buy

Can do that already with IQAUDIO software, or Roon Server provided you use a later Arm7 Pi, but I would expect it to run painfully slow if you have a large library. Don't Roon recommend i3/i5 upwards? Oh and it can't be controlled by less than an iPad 4 if you're using iOS.

Plus nearly £500 for what is basically a search engine with music player and tied to Tidal makes it very expensive. I'd like to see Roon use other streaming services to make it more appealing. I tried it with 3 month free trial alongside a 3 month Tidal trial and I cancelled them both within a month as I just couldn't see what it gave me over MoOde (free) and Apple Music.

Agreed...Just to clarify I have mine in a dog bone case, and use Orange Squeeze on tablet or phone as the interface (for 2 Pi DACs & 2 SBs)...looking at 'Bonky's' thread made me realise that the full case and display were beyond my DIY skills and patience!

I think there's a certain 'steam punk' elegance to the naked piDAC...;)

So much more than a search engine with music player or I wouldn't have shelled out for it, but hey ho YMMV.

Roon wouldn't recommend hardware it couldn't run on, and depends whether its Roonserver or Roon your talking about.
