I've been down this route a few times.

You can either decouple the tonearm. You can detune and resonance into a frequency that will have no effect on the sonics. Or, you can completely seperate the tonearm. All have pro's and con's. I generally go down the heavy mass route to "sink" any naughty frequencies into the plinth. If I had more time and space I'd probably go down the seperate tone-arm "pod" route.

cheers,so its having a effect on getting the best from the turntable,what about some sort of gasket between the board and the plinth?
i was thinking of making an ebony board but because of the large area perhaps i wont bother?

You can also deaden too much Jamie and then that will have a massive impact on what you hear I remember trying to dampen EVERYTHING on the 1210 and then realised that the musicality of the deck was gone. I did indeed manage to deaden something and that was my enjoyment of the 1210 due to washed out over dampened musical presentation. Just sayin... :)

yes good point,the tt sounds great and obviously when playing nothing is making the board tap like that,
the other way i could look at it is,any resonance is being drained through the board and out through the plinth? yes?

Yes and also through the rigidity of your tonearm and also your bearings in the tonearm. You could try some dynamat under the tonearm board, dont bother with sorbothane as this works by vertically loading weight through the material to eliminate vibration. You might want to add some rubber "o" rings on your bolt threads as well as this will stop additional resonance going down the bolt's thread. Or, additionally you could glue the tonearm board onto your deck and then eliminate all the screw threads and thus an area which could translate resonance into the plinth etc. Just a few thoughts.

To be honest, it does sound a bit 'live' to me. Both the arm board and the plinth.

You could try an alternative material for the armboard, Tufnol/Paxolin are quite effective, as is aluminium, as long as they are reasonably thick. Say 5mm minimum.

The plinth can be damped from inside with self adhesive pads.

Jamie, you might want to do some research into how materials affect resonance. Shindo's work with Cherry wood and the 301 plinths is quite interesting.
