Hi

I am a new member from Pretoria South Africa, I have been into HI-FI & Vinyl for quite some time but have recently rekindled the fire when I found a Goldring G99 with Ortofon Arm that I have started to restore. I have a bout 1200 LP's from A-Z and Classical to Metal...Hope to get some good advice on the Forums...

Cheers

DC

Hello DC. Welcome to AOS.

You are lucky to have a G99, it's an extremely good turntable and the Ortofon arm should be a nice match.

Tell about the rest of your system and what plans you may have for it.

Enjoy the forum,
Geoff.

Hi Geoff

Everybody calls me D.C - Can I stick with it, it will feel strange to change it? I have GAS Amps an Ampzilla and a Thaedera, with Dahlquist DQ 10's, unfortunately they have replaced the drivers but they still sound great, I have never come across another pair to compare. I am currently using a AR XA turntable...which I hope tp replace with the GOLDRING once it has been done up!

Thanks for the welcome

DC

The AR turntable is nice enough, but set up correctly the G99 will run circles around it!

It's a long time since I've seen any Dahlquist DQ10's ! Nice speakers. Welcome DC.

Welcome to AoS "DC"

Actually we would prefer to know your real name (just for the record), but could continue to refer to you as DC if you wish.

Interesting collection of vintage gear you have there. Clearly a fan of the late Jim Bongiorno.

Yes, the Dahlquist DQ10s are a bit of a rara avis in the UK. As far as I'm aware there were only a couple of dealers for them here. Saw a pair once, but never got around to listening to them.

Enjoy the Forum
Barry

By the way I saw an open fronted Ortofon headshell for sale on eBay - Was there a model like that?

I have seen those before. Not sure of their purpose. The only thing I can think of is maybe for use with Mk.IV Decca cartridges.
