Bit of a newbie to digital files it may sound daft I've got a laptop plugged into my young dac and I'm trying to play free version of Spotify through my hifi am I going to need a streamer and how does it all work with my dac and amp:scratch:

Just take it out to dac and then to amp in analogue Steven. Nothing overly difficult initially. usb out from pc to dac, then rca to amp

Done that no sound through the speakers just wondered if there was something I was missing when I've got the laptop plugged in to the dac it defaults to bnc but no sound unless I have the cable plugged into the wrong USB port on the laptop there are 3

Gary would be your man for the young dac. It might need a driver, I dont know tbh. or you may have to set up the pc audio output to the said dac .

But before you start clicking links to install stuff let everyone know what operating system is on the laptop as there might a better driver than on that link.

Gary will know all about this when he sees the thread.
It will be easy when you have the driver and have 'told' the laptop where to send the sound to.

Install wizard has not picked up the young dac when I've plugged it in so it looks like I'll deffo have to install the drivers

yup,
You need to install the driver that Mark G. linked to.
Restart your laptop and all should be working fine after that.

It's asking me to create a temporary file then unzip it not sure how to create a temporary file any of you guys more clued up than me

How do you do this wirelessly , I've got a USB cable out of laptop into my NAD M51 DAC , is there a small thingy (:D) I can plug into the DAC and recieve all the PC sounds , the router is nearby btw.

You could use foobar2000 on pc with the bubbleupnp plugin, then send it or cast it to a chromecast audio disc, and into the stereo. sends flac etc seemlessly. I just set it up myself and works very well.. use bubble android on a tablet to view and control etc. all free too, bar buying the ccast which aint expensive. took no real knowledge either as itwas really almost plug n play

you will need to have something to gather the info from the router. some dacs do have this capabliity. Its not as simple as my idea but, again you want to do a different thing... I would suggest a longer cable. Ive done laptop via usb to spdif tos and then long cable to dac. depends on ow long though. certainly 5 metres would likely be ok; maybe a bit more. Not sure how far coax goes but might do...

As in: "I want anything I do on my PC with sound sin it to come through my stereo" ?

If that's the case, you need to set your default sound output to your USB/DAC, including system sounds if you want those bells and beeps there too - I don't.

Yes I've done that and it works with a cable , I want to do it wirelessly.

I've had a Neet product before the instructions are a bit ambiguous but the gear usually does the job well.

Probably just me Barry. I will stick to chromecast and rpi I think.... They are cheap n cheerful and I can work them, just about.
Sure you will have better luck; i'm not great with computer networking tbh

I tried to solve this exact problem, first with an Rpi (there is a lag on AirPlay), then with a chrome cast and couldn't solve it. I got sick of faffing in the be and bought a really long optical cable. I am interested to see how you get on with the neet

THIS (https://github.com/acidhax/chromecast-audio-stream) is supposed to do it but ive not tried as that was not my desire at time.

My delivery of the Neet is due late next week , I'll report back then.

Came at lunch today (Amazon delivery)
Plug into mains , ethernet cable into Router , toshlink into DAC.
For PC - supported platforms are Airfoil , itunes and Windows Media Player.
Downloaded trial Airfoil.
From Airfoil select source , Spotify then Musicbee both worked , so then bought Airfoil (£27).
25 mins job done and sounds great :)

Some more comments.
Airfoil is excellent , you can play anything from your PC if the app isn't supported you can just choose PC sounds as your source.
The Neet Wi-Fi reciever has just one small issue as do all recievers I've seen , they only have Toshlink out and the cable only supports up to 48kHz. Haven't found one with a Digi Co-ax out.
