Best Android Streaming App with Digi + [Archive]

Hi,

Just installed a Hifi Berry Digi + on Raspberry Pi 2.

I aim to use it as a headless music streamer with optical digital feeding Caiman SEG. My FLAC audio files are on a NAS drive.

Any suggestions as to best Android app for this purpose.

Hi Geoff, given you already have a NAS I'd suggest the following...

LMS on your NAS, assuming it's got enough grunt (I use a QNAP with 1.2Ghz to run 4 SB clients, and a catalogue of over 3k FLAC CDs

PiCorePlayer on your Pi/DIGI

OrangeSqueeze on your Android phone to control it all

....then add as many clients as you want :)

You just plug the drive into the usb port of the Pi and use a player like Moode to access the files.

Currently reading up on Orange Squeeze.

Do you know if PiCore has support for the Digi+ 12s capability?

Logitech Media Server is correct, what NAS do you have? You'll need a 'linux' version of LMS for your NAS, with QNAP it's a menu installation, all depends on your NAS...

I previously used SqueezeCommander, but that's no longer supported, so switched to Orange Squeeze about 6 months ago, no issues at all, very good...:)

Looks like hifi digi is supported by picoreplayer...

FYI I'm running an SBTouch/EDO (livingroom), IQaudioPidac/Picoreplayer (kitchen), SB3 classic (bedroom), and AudiophonicsPiDAC/picoreplayer (spareroom), all from LMS on my QNAP...controlled by Orange Squeeze, or the LMS web page, or the RF remotes...

I have a WD MyBook Live 3tb drive running from Windows LMS. I have been using it with my old Squeezebox and it sounds good but I am hoping the Pi with Dig+ will sound better as well as allowing me to use e better GUI with access to album art.

So presumably all you need to do is install piCorePlayer and you're up and running...

Are you going to use wifi or ethernet for the pi?

P.S. the old SB onboard DACs are very easy to beat ;)

I have managed to get it to work with Moode although it took a bit of trial and error. Sound is good through the Caiman SEG into my Magneplanar 1.7 speakers, inlcluding the 320k radio feeds. Not sure about the web interface though. Seems a bit clunky to me.

Only used the SB as a streamer, to feed a DAC via an ethernet connection. Sound was good but I feel the interface is now somewhat dated.

...hence I use Orange Squeeze on my phone to control it all, well worth £3.50 IMHO ;)

Sounds like you've got it cracked with Moode anyway...enjoy :cool:

Which Squeezebox player do you have?
If it's the SB3/Classic and using the interface on the player itself, then I agree, it is somewhat dated.
From a web browser it's great.
As far as sound quality is concerned the SB3/Classic is not as good as a Squeezebox Touch or a Squeezebox Transporter, and with that I mean when it's being used as a transport only into an external DAC.

Mine is an early Slim Devices model. Not tried it with a web browser. How does that work and do you get full album art etc?

You need to know the IP address of your serving device on your LAN, and suffix the IP address with :9000
Type that IP address and suffix into the address bar of a web browser.
On my network the server is on http://192.168.0.16 , so the server web pages are on http://192.168.0.16:9000
