Hello, I thought it about time to introduce myself having been a browser for quite some time! I have been interested in Hi-fi since the '70s, when I was bitten by the bug, lusting after the systems owned by extended family members- Bang and Olusfen, Celestion, Technics.
As a child then, with no means to aquire these systems myself, the desire was ever greater. Now some forty years on, I have to admit that I have somewhat made up for my sadness at that situation. Ironically, the technology of my current system, proceeding that of the systems I was listening to then- valve amplification, horn speakers, reel to reel and obviously still vinyl.
It is still in transition having been through some extensive changes, hopefully have it completed within the year- getting rather impatient!

Exciting to see someone from Cambridge. We visited the university there with our daughter last March. She may be attending the graduate school for life sciences for doctoral studies in 2017. Lovely town (but terribly expensive!).

The journey towards my current system began with a mono Grundig cassette player, then an old radiogram, a portable record player followed. With income from a Saturday job, I saved £180 (earning £1 per hour) and purchased an Amstrad system from Curry's. I upgraded to a Pioneer separates set-up in the eighties, eventually moving on to a Musical Fidelity M3 Nuvista based system. This was traded for an Ear V20 and since then I have experimented with many different combinations! Valve amplification has remained a constant, speakers have been as varied as stacked quads and horns, vinyl has remained, as has cd, although reel to reel has come, gone and returned again! My current system will engulf my living room when complete, taking up a complete wall and some! I am extremely lucky, having a very tolerant missus, so I admit to taking advantage of this fact! It is based around 845 mono blocks and horn speakers, I will have to start a post listing it all :-)

very occasionally now. if your password is a good un then they wont get anywhere Dean. always pick something complicated, but write it down somewhere. a mix of numbers, caps and low case etc is best... not a family name.

Ive seen that 2 part dac before.. used to have a single box the same.. forgot the name now.. it was very decent and supposed to be improved with the second box...American it was.

It was a Perpetual Technologies P-3A and P-1A pairing with a Monolithic Sound Power supply.... American as you state.
