Olson gang plug rewire advice

I have just pick one of these up for 8 quid I know I am going re terminate the power leads but are there any internal rewiring worth doing to it

the model is a Olson 3508 Data Protector Mains R.F Filter with Spikes and Transients Suppressor

Some would advise you to remove the filter, surge suppressor, fuses and switch. I would not, but if you can disable the neon of the illuminated DPDT switch that would be good (neons are electrically noisy devices). Certainly the fuse in the neutral (blue) lead should be bypassed; your Olsen unit has been designed for Europe, which use non-polarised plugs. You could bypass both of them safely and rely on the fuse in the plugtop.

Again some would suggest you employ 'star' wiring of the sockets within the casing, rather than 'daisy-chain', but I don't believe it makes any real difference.

If you are going to replace the mains lead, use a good quality 15A rated three-core cable and fit a 13A fuse in the plug top.



One final word of caution: should you have any form of accident for which you make an insurance claim, your insurers may reject the claim if they find out you have modified the distribution strip, or any other part of the mains wiring.

Cheers Barry I was going to remove the neon light going off subject as I have been away for a while need some more interconnects currently got ms audio plugs and klotz mc5000`s are they still the in vogue interconnects to use or have people moved on to a different combo .
I am trying to give my system a make over as I am waiting fir two more spinal operations and there is only so much Tv I can take I amp ripping a load of music to my computer as for the first month or so I be laid up on my back so foobar controlled by my phone will be my music .

It has just occurred to me Gerry, if you are going to replace the IEC input connector with a flying lead, then the connector must either be removed, disconnected or blanked off with a cover of some sort. If it is left in place uncovered and/or not disconnected, you will have live pins exposed creating a serious risk of electric shock.

What is star wire also about star earth confused. Com

Star wiring is where the three wires for each socket (live, neutral and earth) are wired individually back to a common connection point. So called because the connections to each socket are like the radial arms of a star.

Daisy chain wiring is where the connections made to the first socket are then continued on to the second socket, and then in turn to the third etc. A bit like a daisey chain.
