We're up in the lake district, near the gorgeous little village of Elterwater, staying at a pretty cool hotel called the Langdale: http://www.langdale.co.uk/langdale-hotel.html situated in some of the loveliest natural/wooded grounds I've seen, whilst my poor dad is on cat/house-sitting duties! :)

Never mind, we'll bring him back a nice doggy bag... :eyebrows:

This afternoon we toured around the area and passed through the beautiful Eskdale Valley, crossing over the stunningly breathtaking Hardknott Pass: https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=hardknott+pass&espv=2&biw=1440&bih=716&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&sqi=2&ved=0ahUKEwjCzJmcs8HOAhUJOsAKHShgDXsQsAQIJw#imgrc= BKJGobQI908ARM%3A which was a pretty hairy drive, through many miles of single-track roads, with passing places, and very steep climbs and sheer drops!! :eek:

Definitely not for the faint hearted, but worth it for the amazing scenery, which rivals that around Snowdonia, and that's saying something. We've taken a few pics, so when I get back I'll post them in The Gallery.

It serves an interesting mix of highish-end restaurant fine dining, mixed with pub classics and even stone-baked pizza, all in quite smart/contemporary, but very relaxed surroundings. Not snooty at all, and the staff have been very helpful and friendly.

I might be joining you with the duck, grant, but I'm also looking at the salmon, mussel and prawn bisque or coq au vin.... Mmm :hmm:

It's 'posh', Al, but very relaxed and casual with it, which we like. I could easily stay here for a week, and tour more of the lakes, and I think we'll do that later in the year :cool:

Cheers, Mark. Yup, they're fab. They're really suites, so you feel that you've got a proper space to chill out in, rather than simply sat in a cramped hotel bedroom.

It's a beautiful morning here, and the view from our balcony is lovely - just sitting having a cup of tea before breakfast, which by all accounts is supposed to be excellent, especially for Del, as she loves all her home-made mueslis. Hope you're keeping well and have been somewhere nice this year on your hols :)

Also up to Bamburgh a few times.
Our favourite rental property in Bamburgh is this one, right between pubs :cool: and very near the beach :) Our Labrador loves it :)

Cheers, matey. Trust me, the Langdale is definitely worth adding to your list. It's unconventional set-up creates a veritable oasis of relaxation and tranquility :)

One of the nicest things is how the (detached) restaurant is structured. Aside from the rather stylish and contemporary 'Scandinavian', slightly Swiss aesthetic, and its light and airy feel, the overall vibe is just superb, as you're sat looking out onto the lovely feature of the watermill, which is subtly lit up at night, and people are all dressed casually (including the waiting staff), with well-behaved kids milling around, instead of the often rather dour formal dining rooms, one usually encounters in four/five-star hotels.

And you're eating gourmet-standard food, served by extremely friendly and extremely attentive staff, but whom also have a knack of being 'invisible'... You know what I mean? Quite often elsewhere, the waiting staff are hanging around the place breathing down your neck, and you're whispering to each other, as there's almost total silence, despite the room being reasonably full with other diners, which doesn't make for the most relaxed of experiences! :nono:

At the Stove, it's the complete opposite, and level of service very well judged indeed. Breakfast is also memorable, as the selection is vast, including both continental, usual full cooked English breakfast, and gems such as oak-smoked salmon and scrambled egg bagels, with as much home-made wholegrain or white bread and jams as you can eat, all served buffet-style, so you can help yourself to as much as you like!

The nice thing as well is you can go for a half-mile long walk (or jog) around 'The circuit', which forms the perimeter of the hotel grounds, after both dinner and breakfast, to help work off what you've eaten! The 80-odd private lodges there and scattered around the estate, which you can rent out, are also superb.

It's awesome, mate. Next time you venture up north, near The Lakes, just go.. Trust me, you won't be disappointed :cool:
