FS: Tannoy Eaton Speakers

A pair of Tannoy EATONS FOR SALE...

I've had to re evaluate these speaker's description, because I think / know I have sold my self short...
Looking closer and the foam surrounds, there is only one small part of the foam that has a small fracture, on one speaker...the other speaker foam surround is intact 360 degrees.
If you are extreme fussy, then you would consider a refoam, otherwise, they sound great as they are...amazing imagery, detail and accuracy...

Grills are pretty perfect, cabinets are in very good condition, Previous one owner from new decided to put holes in rear of each speaker for brackets. ..can be easily be filled with cork etc. Sound great as they are! Audition welcome....

Looking for £300 (what I paid for 3 years ago!) ...

I do not want to spoil the party, but usually even a slight crack in the foam suspension is bad news. Gently push on it with your index and, shock, horror, you are on the other side. Believe me, I have done it with my Tannoy Dual Concentrics... And a damaged suspension could be a threat for the speaker's life.

But your price is very good, even if the buyer has to replace the suspension. A new suspension (rubber instead of foam) is not that expensive and will last for many years. Good luck with your sale.

Maybe a spot of PVA can sort this. ? I have speakers with a PVA repaired tear and notice no difference. If I bought a new cone I would keep it in the box for now.

"hayche" PVA is for sniffing, not for patching an excellent precision piece of equipment!

I've been collecting HiFi for the last 30 years...serious offloading at the moment, so I hope I can offer the forum some kit at sensible prices.....watch this space...

Those are not the usual drivers seen in the Eaton speaker, which normally had the HPD 295A fitted and it had rubber cone surrounds, not foam.

Those units are HPD 295/8, as originally used in the Chevening model. These may be early Eatons and there could have been a short transition period where Tannoy used up the remaining stock of HPD 295/8 units before the HPD 295A was employed.

Replacement ten inch foam surrounds specifically for these do exist, but can be tricky to locate.

PVA is not suitable for surround repairs. There are better alternatives.

If Daniel wants to work on these, I may be able to advise.

Well spotted Geoff, the guy I bought them off was the first owner and he'd had them from the (poss) mid 70's.

To add to the confusion with Eaton drive units, Tannoy took their time producing HPD 295A badges for the back of the unit, so many HPD 295A drivers display the HPD 295/8 label.
