TT weights VTA adjuster for Jelco 750 -

So in my endless search to wring the last out of my kit I came across this lovely looking item:

Now that's got my name on it says I :cool:

But on checking it seems the firm has gone belly up and all stock sold off months ago (sound familiar) :eyebrows:

Anyway, it really looks nice and functional.

Maybe Mike N or Hugo would be interested but I guess TTW went the way of the dodo because it is such a niche market

If anyone has one kicking around spare I'd love to try it

I think that TTW may have over-estimated demand for such an expensive solution, for a notably inexpensive tonearm. You can't adjust VTA on the fly with my improved Jelco mounting collar, but it offers very smooth and accurate height adjustment at what I believe is a sensible price. Simple is best, I reckon.

To be honest, I'm not taken with it and think the solution Ammonite do is significantly better.

I have bought this item a few months back when I knew they were going out of business. It is not yet installed since I did not buy the Jelco tonearm yet. I can tell you that it is very well made just like all other products I bought from them. But there was little interest shown in it so I dropped the project.
I recently posted some images of it here on AoS, offering it for sale.
Eventually Andrew in NZ took it and I fitted an arm collar to it for him.
I will ask him to post his opinion on it, I posted it to him only last Monday.

Hi Mike - that would be interesting.
Just bought a MkIII Ammonite Acoustic collar - very impressed. Very nicely machined and holds the arm pillar very effectively with minimal force using the nylon tipped grub screw. I think the better arm stability has resulted in a more stable and focused stereo imaging and tighter bass.

I have posted before on the topic of VTA which resulted in me getting into a bit of a spat ie. noone else agrees with me, apart from Rega, perhaps, who provide no such facility on their arms.

This is a summary:

There is a pretty convincing school of thought that says VTA makes bugger all difference. If you have 5 minutes, I highly recommend you read this article, which actually became a bit of a legal issue: http://www.tnt-audio.com/sorgenti/vta_e.html

It explains the relationship (mathematically) between VTA, SRA (which is the important thing, not VTA) and tracking force.

As the reports states in an example, a 1mm change in arm height will change SRA by 0.19 degree. In other words, you have to really make significant changes at the pivot end to make any appreciable difference at the stylus end.

Given that changes in arm height at the pivot end have considerably less influence than any geometric changes at the cartridge end, just think of the relatively enormous changes in SRA that will be created by even the smallest of warps or imperfections in a record, or the difference in thickness between records!

The author's findings made such a mockery of Roy Gregory of HiFi Plus that he threatened legal action...then backed down in the face of the evidence.
