This is the amp that Simon (SJS) worked his magic on last year (or the year before?) and rebuilt during which he fitted new Shuguang 300B's. The previous owner didn't use it much and I have probably only used it for around 100 hours.

£650 cash on collection only

May be sold to the idiot on eBay as he says he still wants it and will collect, even though he is in China and is UK eBay address is a freight forwarding company in Heathrow.

I can't cancel the auction so have given him until Monday to pay and contact me on how he intends to collect.

If I don't have a response by Monday evening it will be back up for sale on Tuesday.

Remember something similar when i sold an Arcam amp on ebay. A Chinese guy wanted me to send it to China, which I refused. next day,an associate, I presume, opened an ebay account with a uk address and bought it. I sent it but was worried. It all went well though.

I have a technique for dealing with E bay sales

1. Money up front into my bank account - no Paypal who's habit of siding with the buyer is exploited by scammers.
2. Buyer arranges and pays for collection of the item from my house. He can insure it as he wishes.

This covers the scenario when the scammer claims the goods haven't arrived and launches a cash back through PayPal.

Quite a bargain, even more so considering it was rebuilt by SJS last year.

http://hifiwigwam.com/forum/topic/91509-sjs-resuscitated/?page=4

"Work started with a complete strip down, and removal of all the electrolytics from the chassis, PSU boards and audio board, and getting in some new parts."

"Every electrolytic was replaced, the PSU boards uses Nichicon and new Audio Note caps, the audio board uses Black Gates."

"All the internal wire is now ptfe insulated solid silver"

"It has been finished off with a complete new set of valves: Mullard GZ37 rectifier; matched pair of NOS Chinese Hunan Shuguang 300Bs; NOS Ken-Rad 6SN7GT VT-231; and a pair of NOS 5687WB"

Underpriced imho.

Cheers Phil, it does sound good and is probably the best intro to the (addictive) world of 300b.

Back up for sale as I finally cancelled the auction, they guy wanted me to box it up for a courier and then pay a few days after it was collected. Unfortunately he left negative feedback and ebay aren't interested in removing it as his address is in the UK and didn't breach their regs.

Watch out for this guy on ebay

I would ask ebay to revisit as if he wanted to send a courier then you have no PayPal protection (as no proof of delivery) so they surely can't expect you to do this?

Should be fine but my car broke down today with an EGR failure so may be off the road for a while, don't know how big the speakers are but you're welcome to bring them round here. Drop me a PM and we'll sort something out.

Sorry you have had problems on eBay Chris

The ONLY time I had a problem on eBay was with 'Asian' purchasers of hifi equipment so I am not that surprised to be honest

SOLD (again)

It is another Chinese buyer with a freight forwarding address in the UK but insists he will collect with cash.

Exact same guy bought my Roksan DAC and wanted me to post to the same address..turns out its a shipping company that has never heard of the the guy who purchased DAC.
Here's the deal. You put your gear on ebay...gets bought immediately by these guys, gets sent to storage/shipping company. End buyer does not receive item..(he could be in china, like mine was..) Your payment gets held, pending cos item has not reached buyer... Ebay are not interested...its a loophole! You lose item....and money.

I ask this guy to collect and pay cash, as per ebay description...did he JEFF!

Cash is king, beware of leeches on ebay!

Same buyer has just bought a pair of speakers from me on eBay, has paid by PayPal and provided the following UK shipping address:
Unit 3,
35 White Hart Avenue,
London
SE28 0GU

According to my PayPal account the address is confirmed and I am eligible for Seller Protection. Is there still a loophole here where I could get stung?

His eBay feedback seems fine, so I contacted two eBay sellers he has recently bought from (and from whom I have bought from in the past and trust), and they have reassured me that the buyer is indeed genuine. They did warn however that PayPal seller protection may be an issue if a claim for non-receipt or damaged goods is filed within 60 days of purchase, but isn't this always a risk?
