I've been using an AT33ptg ii and have really enjoyed it. I saw someone who was looking for one so took the opportunity to try something else for a giggle :lol:

Ah. That's an MC I've not tried. I suspect you'll find the ZYX rather different.

Well that didn't work out as expected. Seller refunded me saying no more stock, so I have now found a Denon DL S1 with 50 hrs on it.
The wait continues......
Nice cartridge Steve, fancied a DS L1 myself. They can sound pretty awesome. Enjoy.

Nightmare, mate. That sort of pish rips my knitting! If something's not in stock, don't fooking advertise it as such and/or take it off the website! :doh:
That's why before I buy anything, I always contact the seller and verify if the item concerned is available. Anyway, here's hoping you get better luck with the next one :)

All turned out great for me as I wanted an S1 more than I wanted the R50, purely down to you extolling its virtues Marco, no pressure. As an added bonus I've save a few £ as well. :lol:

Well the DL S1 arrived and has been mounted and since Weds.
Initial impression was nice but not what I was expecting (although I don't know what I was expecting). Airy comes to mind, the detail was not as great as I'd expected. I checked mounting and made very minor changes. Again not blown away.
I then tried different loading 50omh, 100omh and 200omh even tried 47k settled on 200omh.
Still the sound is nice but not an improvement over my AT33ptg to my ears.
I'm wondering if I need to increase mass of my Funk Firm F5 tone arm? I can do this with the sliding weight on the arm but would adding mass to the head she'll help?

As someone said to me yesterday it's like chasing rainbows, no guarantee that something that we assume to be better will be. All the carts I have when well set up are so similar it makes me wonder why I keep looking but I have a Shure Ultra 500 in a Martin Bastin body and jico sas stylus coming next week.

All the carts I have when well set up are so similar it makes me wonder why I keep looking but I have a Shure Ultra 500 in a Martin Bastin body and jico sas stylus coming next week.

Geoff, there will be a point where I may have tried dozens of carts and will no doubt end up with my first or second one I tried. :doh:
Just get a shure m55 and be done with it :eyebrows: save yourself some cash

I have an r100 yatra concur with Geoff the Zyx carts are sublime tons of detail sublime mids loverly highs nice bass lovin mine
just i case i contemplate getting one,why do you buy in the uk?

Yeah. The Yatra is gorgeous. Might seem a bit pricey, but I rate it as a bargain for what is on offer. Getting sumptuous, sweet, transparent and lucid all in one package is a pretty neat trick! :D
Makes the R50 Bloom an even bigger bargain, 'cos it comes pretty close at less than half the price

Well you get a real warranty. But I've no great objection to buying from overseas sellers. Done so loads of times.

The Ortofon MC25FL should not be forgotten either. It's on a par with the R50 Bloom for sheer musicality and also offers a fair amount of what the Yatra can. Only available second hand but a decent one is so nice.
im using one now geoff,very nice cartridge :)

Have you ever tried a Goldring Eroica LX. They come pretty damn close and are a really nice listen. A total bargain at around £300. One that most people seem to miss.

Can't see why not. The stylus of mine is still in excellent condition, but when the time comes for a re-tip, I'll approach ESCo, or NWA for a quote.
