So I have to post here first; seems a good idea.
I live in Carmarthenshire (but really an ageing hippie from England on my smallholding) running a CD based system and rebuilt Quad ESL63 Pro monitors with a Quad amplifier. Grew up on rock and the blues but have become hooked on traditional music (mostly Irish). I don't play myself as I'm tone deaf. I rarely make any changes to my hifi but looking to now add high resolution digital audio to my existing system. Why? Good question.
Basically my wife and I came across an amazing young trad fiddle player from Scotland around 16 months ago and thought he was such an amazing talent that we offered him a bit of help (philanthropically). Basically we believe he deserves to be heard and I think our generation has 'stuffed the world up' enough for youngsters. So giving something back is us saying sorry in some small way.
He turned out to be an incredibly modest young man who is (in our opinion) probably the best young fiddler of his generation. We offered to support him making his first CD. This has since 'snowballed' in scale since I contacted a triple award winning Grammy producer/engineer in the States who immediately said that he would like to produce and record the album as he felt he was an exceptional talent. I'm still gobsmacked. This is a big deal' as normally works with some of the biggest classical names in the world including Yo-Yo Ma. Suddenly I'm going 'whoa' what's happening.
As he records to a high end audiophile standard in a real acoustic environment (we spent three days with him driving around Scotland looking for a room with great acoustics and a grand piano!) I thought I better have something to play it on. Seems I liked the artist so much that I'm now making the album! Still a long way to go and hurdles to overcome in a very difficult industry but I'm having a lot of fun on the journey!
If it's of interest to people, I may in due course, post details of the recording session and the process. The recording is taking place in Glasgow at the end of August.
