Hello from Mallorytown Canada

hi all
have been following the forum for about 3 months, figuring out what kind of system to purchase/develop. Still very much the amateur when it comes to knowledge about audio, describing what I hear in an understandable manner and sucking it all in like a sponge. I have a Cayin 88T integrated amp (used but hardly) a pair of Allison IIs bought recently used (bass foams replaced on all four), and a very recent Caiman DAC. Really like the site as there is none of the "unpleasantness" that seems to be raising its head on some canadian forums! Plan to hang around a long time and the Caiman sure is a sweet creature;)

I don't usually involve myself in the Welcome board, being only a newbie myself, but seeing you were from Canada I couldn't resist! Ontario, is it? That's the only Mallorytown Google Maps throws up. I spent close to a year in Vancouver, BC. Loved it. You've a very pleasant country on your hands, there. And I mean that in terms of people and landscape. I passed through ON on the way to New York on the bus (yes, from Vancouver…) but I'm afraid I don't recall much. SK and MB were the standouts. Never made it to the maritimes but hope to do them some day, just to visit Nova Scotia and investigate Trailer Park Boys country!

Anyway, me rabbiting on. Welcome to the forums! :wave:

Not just Canadian ones, George! I think we're mostly misfits on here - we like being nice and friendly and helpful, put music as being more important than the replay gear and generally are a fun loving community - so many other forums struggle with those attributes!

So, welcome to the madhouse - I've only been to Canada on one trip, but it was lovely - did the usual touristy things - the falls, CN tower - especially loved Montreal - found a little restaurant (Black Cat or something) which did the most wonderful food, and had Sade playing - every time I hear Smooth Operator I think of Montreal... Had to buy all her albums there and then, hence why I've got import versions! Which reminds me, what music are you into? As you'll have seen, we're an eclectic bunch so you'll find someone who's into anything you care to mention!

If you are in Mallorytown Ontario, we were discussing the 1,000 Islands the other day, as a UK member was posting some of his holiday photos.
A few years ago, my family & I spent a week staying in a cabin on the edge of Red Horse lake (not too far from Charleston Lake). Spent some time mooching around Ganonoque & drove through Mallorytown once or twice (may have had a meal there once, though I can't quite remember). This was the year after the big ice storm you had there &, as a forester, I was pretty depressed to see all the damage it caused.

Apart from that, I was impressed by the landscape round there - not many mountains, but by God, have you got some lakes!!

thank you all for your warm greetings! It is nice to know that you all have had pleasant experiences in Canada. Yes Mallorytown Ontario is a pretty small place, but as it sits very near the 1000 Islands, it gets to see many tourists! I live on some 20 acres of forrest, off a dirt road nearby and love the wild life and peace that is here...not quite like 25,000 acres on an estate in Scotland that I would love to have, but hey, it's either that or stereo equipment:lol:
Being in the Canadian Military I have seen much of Canada, which has been a real treat, both during natural disasters - floods, fires, ice storms - and postings Calgary, Winnipeg, Montreal, Edmonton, Ottawa, Kingston (Mallorytown). I have also been able to see bits of the UK, mostly London which I love (to visit and then get home!!) and Scotland. My wife and I recently (past May) went to the Speyside Whisky festival - brilliant, then Edinburgh, Glasgow and back down to London...man that was great and all the people we ran into were cracking. Back in my University days (about the time that Caesar was yomping up and down the Island:lolsign:) I managed to visit Dover, Cambridge, Wick and John 'O Groats. I will be posted to Europe next year and will certainly get a few visits into the UK.

Welcome to the AoS forums, George !

There's no "unpleasantness" because people try to help but not dictate, a place where "objective view" is not another way of stating "my view", and I hope it will always be like that.

Enjoy the forums, and don't bother about the absence of table ! Post the pics, we're not fussy ! ;)
