The UN having investigated the UK on the effects of the welfare reforms and human rights, have now published their findings.

The report states :
The UN are “seriously concerned” by the state of inequality in the UK.
It highlighted the problems with welfare reforms and benefit cuts and the impact it is having on the vulnerable in our society.

The report also expressed concerns over
Sanctions, unemployment, zero hours, the national minimum wage, homelessness, use of food banks, and discrimination.

Interesting Grant. But with the Tories now becoming non EU, I doubt they'll give a toss. I think 'austerity' and just plain mean mindedness will cost them the next GE though.

Ah yes the UN - another organization that is badly in need of having its wings clipped. Quite astonishing that with the state that most of the world is in that they should single out the UK - a country that is so awful half the world are queuing up to come and live here.

As for Boris I am in two minds. Despite his buffoonery he is a very intelligent man. Whether that can translate into success in his new role remains to be seen. He has before him the most difficult situation a Foreign Secretary has faced since 1939.

He's inside the tent pissing out, rather than on the outside pissing in. It's a clever move by Mrs May; put Boris in a high-profile job where it's easy to fail, let him face the immediate fall-out from Brexit, and make him accept collective responsibility for Government decisions. Plus he's bigger than Putin and could bop him on the nose if he gets uppity.

On the other hand of he makes a good fist of it and wins support in the parliamentary party then you could be looking at the next PM. May's honeymoon period is unlikely to last unless she has qualities/abilities not yet seen and Boris already has widespread grass-roots support.

Although it is fun to speculate it really matters a lot less who is doing what Cabinet job than is generally portrayed in the media. It is all personalities and fluff - just meaningless window dressing for the media and those who are happy with a facile level of analysis.

May was very quiet during the Brexit campaign. I think she saw her chance coming and maybe after the result and Cameron resigned, suggested to Boris that if he stood down in the leadership challenge, she'd offer him a top job which could keep his hopes alive of Premiership at some point in the future. Even Gove could have been in on the scheme. Just a thought!
