Is Nad C541i better than Maranz CD 40

I have a Nad 310 amp Maranz cd 40 and Jpw sonata speakers in the spare room sounds nice however a chap just 3 miles away has a Nad C541i CD player for sale at £20 in excellent condition would this be a better sounding CD player than my old Maranz ? Thankyou for your help in advance

Quality wise they are similar but I'd say the NAD is more neutral to the source, lacks that rosy glow of the Marantz house sound. £20 sounds worth a punt and worst case gives you a back up player if the Marantz fails.

Pretty decent sounding as a rule NAD CD players. I seem to recall the 541i had some good reviews.

No brainer at 20 quid if you ask me, 541i is a good solid machine and well worth the very modest outlay. While the CD40 has the classic TDA1541 chip, I think it is outclassed by similar era machines of better specification. I remember upgrading my CD40 to a Rotel 855 (same chip) back in the early 90's and the Rotel obliterated the Marantz on sound quality, had that classic 16x4 multibit warmth that the chip is known for but which the Marantz sadly lacked. Get the NAD.

I agree. At £20, I'd buy it just to have something else to play with. NAD players make decent transports too and this one has optical and cable digital outputs. Plug it into a good DAC and you're away! :)

I got the Nad for £20 sounds lovely more detail than the Maranz cd 40 and matches the 310 amp will be the cd 40 on eBay in the winter more people looking then has remote and in excellent condition no draw issues etc

Any NAD CD player remote is likely to work. You should spot one on eBay sooner or later.
