As most of my old favourites are vintage, I'm starting this thread here, but I guess the Blank Canvas area would be just as fitting.
Anyway, there are items of gear I wish I still owned (if I had room :))
A few:
Leak Stereo 20, consistently fine sounding power amp. Rappaport Pre 2, a great pre-amp. Ortofon SPU and Decca 4RC carts, what can you say, lovely sounds. Tannoy Eatons, very sweet smaller classic duals. Harman Kardon 730 receiver, it did everything well and looked pretty. Goldring G99 turntable, up there with the best.
A couple of things i would on reflection have kept had i known better, or had been wealthier. My beloved Musical Fidelity A1000 would be the main one. 50 watts class A...fab build quality too. MF have never built anything like it b4 or after....nor will they, as it would cost too much and probably breach the energy convention;)
Maybe also the yaqin amp i had, although that could be replaced easier... It was very good and a bargain for the money.

Back in the late 80's I bought an old Technics amp from a colleague at Laskys.
Unusually I can't remember the model, but it was big & black with brushed chrome controls and a damped glass drop down panel hiding the secondary controls. I really did like that one.

An ADC Accutrac 4000 turntable - twice. I sold it and regretted it, so bought another one. Then I was made an offer I couldn't refuse on that one so sold it as well. I now have another one and wont be making the same mistake a third time!
I also wish I hadn't sold my GLL Imagio IC258TL loudspeakers or my Vestax PVT-E2 turntable.

Anything I had that I sold on I am mostly happy enough that I did - T&A V10 mk1 veiled and lacking resolution, wonderful looking but that's it. Pathos Logos - coloured and very heavy plod in the bass. EAR 864 - nice pre, but compared to what I have not transparent enough with an ok phonostage. Quad 2's coloured junk :sofa: Never could work out what all the fuss was/is about... each to their own I guess. Quad pre (same period as Quad 2s) - total junk. Audio Innovations Series 300 - nice but the Series 500 was better. Couple of Marantz CD players, nice but I was upgrading and each step at the time was better. Philips CD player - unreliable junk. Audio Technica CD player - complete and utter crap. Ariston Q Deck, nice but what I went to was better. Ruark Equinox - lovely speakers but didn't have the room to keep them. Rega RB300 arm, don't miss. Goldring Eroica - don't know why folks are interesting in these an ok cart, don't miss it.
What I miss, should not have sold: Voyd Valdi - total Muppet for selling that on. Audio Innovations Series 1000 mk3 :doh: Eminent Technology ET2 tonearm, what a total dick I was for selling it and trusting the person I did sell it to to sell it back when or if he wanted to move it on. That was the clause for me selling it to him. Garth you are a total weasel :steam:

Yes I've had a couple of sets of Quad 22/2xII amplifiers. Dated yes, but no way could you describe them as "junk". The Quad 22 preamp can readily be dispensed with. I ran the Quad IIs using a Hafler DH-101 preamp into Quad ESLs. Maybe not as good a Leak Stereo 20, and certainly not as good as any Radford valve amp, but the Quads do have a gorgeous liquid midrange.

Leak Stereo 20 I had to sell in needs must situation... when they were only worth £70! Luckily a good mate gave me another one several years later:)

Glenn Croft Modified Leak stereo 20, Garrard 301 and a Decca Blue, yep sold the lot 25 years ago to an old chap down the road after deciding Ceedee was the future.:doh:
Nothing, really. I sort of miss my Border Patrol power amp, but I was never really happy with a valve amp in the house. Other than, stuff I sold on or gave away had either served its purpose or been a PITA or just didn't suit. (I've still got two full systems, a spare CDP, preamp and power amp that I really ought to move on. Apart from the CDP which is there in case one of my two other CDPs conks out).
A minty Leak TL10 with almost fresh GEC valves. Like Jez sold it as needs must for £120 - could stick a nought on that now and the valves are probably a few hundred. KT61 I think. That was 20 odd years ago though.
Sot of regret selling my Celestion A2 speakers as they were mint and I let them go too cheap. Just felt there were too many speakers piling up. Not that bothered though.
Now a list of stuff I regret buying - that would be a long one.

Sorry Barry, but why anyone would spend big money on Quad 2s I don't know, I think it a tad mad - imho. The Leak TL20 is much better, as are Radfords. I have heard standard Quads, and reworked Quads and I don't rate them. The only Quads I ever heard that came close to being desirable were rebuilt and reworked by Peter Lindley a maverick speaker and amplifier builder, he was from East Anglia. Bar his speakers which were production items all his amps were one off items, none quiet the same as the last as he incorporated new ideas. His TVAs were nice. The others based on a Quad chassis were Concordant, which I heard in Fortress Audio in London, many years ago, nice but not essential.

Yeah I was in one of those moods, diplomacy out the window. Harsh maybe but how I feel based on experience.

And. I wouldn't mind my Technics EPC-305MC and Fidelity Research MC-202 back either. Not the best MCs I've owned, but damned good!
The only bit of old kit I wish I'd kept was the Crimson pre/power I had - though only for sentimental reasons really.
Wadia 27ix and 270se, a great combination that made seriously good music a kind soul offered a price that was too good to turn down.
Guess it'd have been nice to keep all of the Royd speakers I'd collected, but then, it's been nice clearing out excess gear over the past couple of years.

Where do I start?
Thorens TD 125 with firstly an SME 3009s2, and then a Rabco SL8E parallel tracker.
Classe CP pre/Lyngdorf SDA2175 pre, and loads of other things!
Reminds me I had a decent Kenwood linear tracker I stupidly sold. Not the best deck ever but I had no money to buy a replacement even half as good and ended up with a really shonky, plastic Phillips abomination. Meanwhile the bloke I sold the Kenwood to would tell me every time I saw him how great it was sounding in his system.

Both are amazing sounding players and built really well.
Pretty much nothing in all honesty. If it is good it stays, until something genuinely better comes along. Anything new has to beat what is there already. If it doesn't it generally goes within a few months or maybe longer.

:eek: Why did you get rid of them? Were they too big for you room? (That's the problem I have.)
Didn't know Decca made a tuner. That must be pretty rare, as are the pre and power amps.
As above.. absolutely Nothing I've previously owned and gotten rid of would I ever want back... even for free.
It was disposed of for genuine, well considered reasons.
Gear gets replaced by higher performance bits.. why go backwards ?
I've gone backwards many times. Often because something failed and the replacement was not as good. Sometimes through stupidity. I doubt I'm alone in that.

You have to know what is best to do that - and that is not always easy. Especially if you have to sell one thing to be able to afford to try another, which makes it harder to go back if you don't like it. I made a lot more progress once I could try new stuff without having to sell the old. Okay you accumulate a lot of kit, but you can then try all the options at leisure and distill it down to the optimum.

Yeah, there's one item I still wish I still had: Pioneer SA-706 amplifier, first made in circa 1976. Kept it for 17 years and loved it paired with Wharfedale E20 speakers, which are still in my attic.
I've always had this thing for dancing VU wattage meters, and it's a pity there isn't more affordable modern amps with these meters. I know the new Yamaha 2100 looks the part, but somehow the Pioneer had that 'X' factor. It was a real pride of ownership amp.

My first 'serious' amplifier was a Sony TA1010. Its build quality was superb.
I often wonder what it would sound like with modern loudspeakers.

Beard CA506 pre-amp and P100 Mk2 power amp. The pre-amp was Bill Beard's own, he sold it to me following a phone call I made to him following the rebuilding of my power amp. Magical apparatus I have to say. With exception of the amps I use now the best i have ever heard.if I Had STAYED With valves and not gone ss I would be seeking out a pair of these magnificent beasts.
Two EMI (or HMV or Stereoscope) 555s went I don't remember where. Probably not as good as my current WAD KEL84, but that doesn't have a glorious oscilloscope on the front. Also a pair of Dahlquist DQ10s. Can't remember where they came from or where they went, but I'd love to know if they're still as magical as they seemed to be in 1976. Finally, for years I had a Technics EPC450C strain-gauge cartridge (DC - 100kHz, anyone?) sitting in a drawer waiting for me to work out how to make a pre-amp/power supply for it. Stupidly I gave it away. Now, I could probably build something to make it work.

Perhaps I should have hung onto my Decca International arm. It was the original long stem one with the metal headshell. Rare now and very good.

Marantz CD7 again probably not as much a regret as the trio, hindsight's a wonderful reflection and reminder of some of our more rash decisions ! Should of still kept it tucked away, must of been on the amber nectar !

A Nakamichi IA4-S integrated amplifier. This was a budget item, but possessed one of the cleanest sounds I've ever heard. Sold it because I thought it was too 'grey and edgy'. Turns out it was probably the cheap CD player at fault :doh:

No, don't regret selling anything. If money was no object there are some items I would have kept but whatever I've bought to replace what's gone must be better. I've never sold something without having the replacement first to compare.
My turntable and arm is the best I've owned and is going nowhere unless I fall on hard times, never say never.
Probably nothing really, as I've been quite deliberate when selling kit to fund upgrades...
But to make a liar out myself I regret passing on my Pioneer A400, never had the kit at the time to do it justice (probably). :scratch:
At that time, reading about Technics SP10's, Nak tape decks and knew the Japanese hifi guys knew their onions when they put their mind to it.
Always curious if John Bamford was right...and it WAS a giant killer.

That and my Marantz SD 1030 tape deck...purely nostalgia, first tape deck I had with LED's.
Sold my Technics Sp10 Mk II with Black Widow arm for the equivalent of £100...should never have sold it. Arm had a wiring problem.

My Marantz Model 9s. It took me almost a year to track down all of the correct parts to restore them. I had them for about a week before someone offered me more cash than they were worth. I didn't even get to hear them after them burned in.

I had a technics sl 110 it was very good ( you don't see many for sale ) ................l sold it.................plonker!
I also had a pair of spendor bc3s, I paid £20 from a charity shop,I put them staight up for sale. My wife was ill when I first bought them so I just plumbed them in to see if all was working and all was well, it was only when the buyer came round I opened them up properly ( by this time my missus was well ) and i realised what I was parting with.....It takes a lot of hard work to be that stupid.

No real regrets about selling.
Miss my immaculate TD124/II, which came in a lovely solid teak plinth, but I was never going to play it again, after buying a Platine Verdier.
The one thing I do regret is throwing away my trashed Micro Seiki LC80W cartridge back in the late 80s/eary 90s. Micro had gone bust by then and I didn't think about getting it rebuilt elsewhere :(

Another man from Bournemouth ! Ok do you like rhythm&blues/soule? If so do you know the bell in pokesdown? There is a band that get in there now and then called the night workers. Bass, rhythm, lead, drums and a fat brass section . Very good!

Nice bit of kit at tbe time but moved it on.
After I learned which end of the soldering iron to hold though, always wondered how far it could be modded.

Yeah, I enjoyed my CD63 KI when I had it. Was a very popular cdp, nice detailed sound although ultimately could be a bit hard / glassy. Moved mine on for the Pioneer PD 91 which I wont be moving on :)
I for one was not keen on the CD63 KI.
A mate bought this, and a new marantz amp. I went round for a listen.
He asked me what I thought. I told him gently that I didn't like it and preferred his older stuff.
He pulled the boxes from behind the sofa, packed them away and took them back.
Apparently he just wanted a second opinion. I was glad he got rid of them.
Maybe I shouldn't have sold my 10" Helius Scorpio 4 arm...
Cambridge Audio C75/A75 pre/power combo. Got them for free as a 20 year old technician (one channel had gone bang in a big way), repaired and they replaced a Nad 3130 at the time. Stunning difference and ran then for a couple of years before moving to Australia - I sold them rather than having to move them, thinking any pre/power would sound this good. doh! Didn't even know who Stan Curtis was at the time.
Still looking for another set, 30 years later :)

Horns needed corners; new house had doors, stairs etc., in the way so......
Though current Ocellia Calliopes are pretty fine-just not as dramatic looking!21703
