Good Morning

I have been reading an old AOS thread on Yannis Tome tonearm cables and am interested in his 423.5 phono litz cable to replace my existing Van Damme cable.

My current tonearm is a silver wired SME 3012 which terminates in RCA sockets.

I have been looking at the information on Yannis's www.back-promo.co.uk site which gives details of the 423.5 cable and have sent an e-mail to Yannis on the 3rd July asking for further details but have yet to receive a response.

Can anyone advise if they have made a similar change and if so were you pleased with the results or would you recommend an alternate cable?

Any advise or comments would be appreciated

Thanks
Mark

Yep. I was in the same boat as you. I tried all sorts of cables and settled on the ones highlighted in my signature at the bottom of this post. I got my 3012 converted to accept a 5 din plug and removing a layer of cabling. I have two tone arm cables made by Yannis and all my ICs are also made by him. Excellent value for money.

Hi Mark, The 423.5 phono litz is an excellent cable in my experience and the one I use. It has been well reviewed here.
The site owner Marco also uses one on his extensively modded Technics SL1210 mk5g and he doesnt do compromises :).
It is of very high quality and as Andy says superb value for money. Combined with the Eichmann silver bullet type rca connectors you'll find it is a true high end cable at not true high end money.
The added bonus is that Yannis is an absolutely top guy to do business with - great service.
I've made all manner of request regarding cables and adjustments and always found his products, customer service and responses to be exemplary - you wont be disappointed.
Feel free to discuss the type of din you might want with us here, there are a lot of good and not so good ones out there.
Depending on what your deck sits on a straight din may or may not work where a right angled din might be better or essential as was in my case.
Any questions just ask ;)

btw- Depending on how much you want to spend and if you feel you need even more than the excellent 423.5 then you could ask Yannis about the 420.5 litz that Andy has which costs more. Only you can then decide if it's necessary to spend the extra.

Hi Andy & Robert,

Thanks for the advise and recommendation in respect of the cables.
I note that Yannis has a new cable advertised on EBay, the "SILVERCORD PLUS" would anyone know if this replaces his previous cables or is this another line that Yannis is offering?
Regards
Mark

Hi Mark,

I recently upgraded to the Yannis cable for my LP12/Ittok/OM2 black and I am very impressed. It was one of those occasions when you really hear a vast improvement straight away. I also recommend the MS Audio/Klotz MC5000 interconnects.

There you go Mark, further testament that the 423.5 really is very good indeed as well as great value too. I bought it on the back of extensive reviewing here where it was referred to as a 'giant killer'

Thats plenty good dosh, particularly if dealing with Yannis Tome cables which are top quality coupled with great value.
If it were me the short list would be the 423.5 which i know to be fab and the 420.5 that Andy has and is pricier so might be a bit better still. If it is then it's flaming good although i've no experience of that one.

You will only need a pair of interconnects If your using the RCAs on the 3012. Speak to Yannis and tell him this and also highlight which wire is in your 3012, I use Ikeda. Yannis will them match the correct design to your budget and to the characteristics of your tonearm wiring. My cable was £655 but then I went a little silly .

£655 from Yannis ? - blimey ! that must be one heck of a cable. I'll stick with the superb 423.5 and keep saving towards a Cadenza Black :)

That must be a serious cable Alan. I hopefully will not be spending this much but I have ordered the Phoenix PSU + Tacho from the UK dealer to try and improve the turntable.

It's Andrew, not Alan!!! Well the Yannis cable was a bargain when you compare it to the prices of some of my old Nordost cables. The Pheonix PSU+Tacho will make a massive difference to your 401. You might also get another some more improvements out of the 401 by sending your bearing to Martin Bastin. It'll cost less than £50 and should make a sonic improvement. Incidently I prefer the 401 bearing to the 301 and have one installed on my 301!!

Sorry Andrew, I need to pay more attention.

I was in the UK recently and took the opportunity to take my 401 to Martin Bastin for a service and his bearing modification, spent a nice few days in Ludlow whilst we waited.

With regard to the Phoenix did you have any difficulty getting the sensor for the Tacho correctly positioned?

Brilliant, glad to hear Martin's had a look at your deck.

Now the sensor is a proper pain in the AR$E, you may need to raise your bearing by 2mm which also raises the platter height, which also means your 3012 will need raising. You will also to check your carts alignment and tracking force  Have you seen my 301 restoration thread? http://theartofsound.net/forum/showthread.php?14850-Garrard-301-restoration-project I think this may detail what I has to do to get the tachometer working. It's extremely easy to setup and once it's in I don't think you'll want to go back!

Thanks, I will have a good read of your thread before I attempt to change anything. Am not confident in attempting to raise the bearing but I'll see how I feel when I've read your experience.
