WANTED: Integrated amplifier with optical input.

My Grandad would like an integrated amplifier with an optical input so he can connect the sky box to it for TV viewing as the speakers in his TV are crappy and so is his hearing.

It must be black

Ideally with remote control

Maximum depth of 375mm

Height ideally under 105mm

Budget of £200

Thank you, I'm unfamiliar with these amps, anyone in particular you recommend? After a Google search I found a few on Amazon but each one I checked out didn't appear to have optical input.

I never mentioned that the speakers are Quad ESL 63's. Hoping that as it's purely for TV viewing the power output won't be too important?

Seems to be all you would need for a tv or tv box. All dig inputs and not too big.

Buy a Yamaha DSp e800 surround amp I think it's called good quality and available for about £30 on ebay.set to disco mode and use the rear

That's a great idea! I used to have one of these myself when I first got into surround sound, it never even crossed my mind to use as a dedicated two channel set up.

Quad ESL 63 just for the telly! That is class.

Well they're for music as well but he has Quad amps for music. We couldn't find a solution to connect the Sky box to his Quad pre as it only has 2 inputs plus Tape, for some reason the Tape input doesn't sound right when a source is connected.

If it is a QUAD 33 the line input is weird and is only for low voltage input - or something along those lines, so a modern component like a CD player or sky box will overload it.

If it isn't a 33 then I'd suspect a fault.

After a quick Google search it would appear to be a Quad 34.

He has a Quad tuner obviously going to the Tuner input, a Sony 557 ESD (I think it is) connected to the AUX input and these both sound fine. When I connected the CD player to the Tape input though it was very low on volume and just didn't sound right. (All inputs are DIN).

I don't know why that would be but no-doubt someone here will have the answer.

If the only issue is a lack of inputs you could get a switching box for not much money, give you multiple inputs into one. Stan Beresford of tis forum does one, or used to. Cheaper than buying another amp.
