Also any reviews before i buy.? i know their 65 WPC

Cheers

They did consider building in China but dunno if they did. May have been make for their market, that is if it's Chinese. Writing looks like it

Seems likely Creek amps are made in China.

You could always ask Creek themselves.

Oh i see....

But its a British design though and they do have a good rep. i can buy for a reasonably cheap price but i really dont need it... just something to buy and test and have fun may even use as a night radio....:D

Creek amps tend to sound extremely good. I'd expect the 65 watt 6060 to give any amp you've got a serious run for its money. If it's cheap, I'd be inclined to grab it. Just make sure it's UK mains compatible. I think the 6060 may have been an overseas market model. I found references to it on Singapore dealers sites.

Well i bought it....Very heavy in fact after a head scratch of bypassing the writing on the back and also turn the pre amp / power / switch of and shes alive but will need a service as was last used 7 years ago.

Good buy i think.....

Well guys i sent the creek off for a service and they discovered a fault with it which is  the problem is when the volume dial reaches the middle and futher the protection circuit cuts it protecting your speakers and such what it is VARY loud to have it at this volume not that i am ever going to use it like this the question is its otherwise working fine no other faults can be found if you put it on mute and go to the said level protection does not cut in so the question is its a lovely bit of kit but what to do?. Any thoughts on what it could be CD overload perhaps.? If theirs not other fault what would could this be bearing in mind the guy that serviced it has 35 years experience in HI-FI , PA repair....

Ive tried headphones and it does not go into protection i have tried a CD player with variable output and its fine at the set volume with an altered level on the CD player i guess these amplifiers are sensitive?

Instructions state;
CD 8.50 mV
Tuner , Video , Tape - mV

So at a guess i would say very sensitive....? I am using a NAD C525BEE currently for testing AND a DVD player with variable output for testing to see if this is the course...

Is it same on any impedance speaker Dan ?

Ive tested a couple of sets of speakers at the normal gain through CD and the protection cut in but have not tried the different speakers with variable too see what it does but it was fine with the heybrooks so im guessing this is what it is.

Something in the power amp section is well and truly knackered Dan.

I had an amp that would go into protection mode at high volume on 4ohm speakers. Didn't on 8ohm though hence the question.

Can anyone find a schematic for this 6060.?

Like Grant said basically. Probably over sensitive protection circuitry.

A big problem for a manufacturer can be people will connect two or three sets of speakers in parallel "for a party" which will often cause an amp without protection to blow up... often they will short a fine wire on the back of a speaker when changing speakers as well. For best sound quality protection needs to be relatively lax or non existent. However.... people will often then try to "pull a fast one" on the dealer or manufacturer and claim that the amp, still under guarantee, "just went like that mate when I was listening to a quiet string quartet/when I switched it on"......

Hi Jez

So speaking to someone in this field of experience what would you suggest do you think its OK to use? the level when projection cuts in i will never go to as i live in a flat its middle level plus a little bit more. Repairing sounds like it could be an expense but i want too keep this amplifier due to its specs if it needs repairing then it will have to be done....

Thanks
Daniel

If it only goes into protection at mind numbing volumes into 4R speakers then chances are it's fine. It shouldn't be possible to trip the protection into 8R speakers.
If there is a fault causing the amp to have DC offset then the protection seems to be detecting it and so your speakers should be ok.
A quick look on the web didn't find any circuit diagrams but Alex Nitikin who sometimes posts on AOS was the designer of some Creek amps and may be able to help you.

A few years ago, one of our customers managed to blow his speakers up 3 times. According to him, he only played Classical music, quietly and he was very disappointed. The last time, I phoned his home to say that they had been repaired and the phone was, fortunately, answered by his Daughter. She asked me why the speakers cut out each time she had a party ? The customer never brought them in for repair again.

Classic. Either he knew the daughter was blowing them up or I suppose she might have not told him about the parties and he thought they were just blowing on switch-on.

It's surprisingly common....

Yep, doesn't matter what the business, when money's at stake normally honest people can rapidly become stone-faced liars.

A bit of info relating to the 6060:

Firstly, it was UK manufactured (or at least I know the European market ones were). Creek have gone to chinese manufacture these days (like everyone else) but the 6060 was built way before then.

The 6060 (like it's little brother, the 5050) was designed and made during the period that Mike didn't own the company (1988-1993), when it was owned by TGI Group. Mike was still involved in the design so I understand. As far as I know, Alex Nitkin was only employed later, after Mike bought the company back. Alex was certainly involved during the much later original 53 series models.

I've had two 6060 and probably three 5050. They are both nice amps (particularly the 6060) but then I've not heard a Creek that I didn't like. Never seen a far-east market one like yours though. If you want a 'translation', I might still have a picture of the back of one of mine.
It shouldn't struggle to go loud on a normal speaker load so it might suggest that there is indeed an issue depending on the test impedance.

One of the switches on the back puts it into bridge mode though for driving a single channel so check that's not pressed. No idea if trying to drive two speakers in bridge mode would give you the symptoms you have?? Anyone?

Crickey that was a bit of a memory jog - I'd almost forgotten I did some of the artwork for some of the Creek silkscreen back panels during the TGI era!

Maybe. The amp looks great and I really like those. But I have a feeling you'll have a little voice inside saying 'get a Destiny' (or Destiny 2). :D

Im at my limit for amplifiers now Geoff "17"

This one is going up in value...sound per pound is well worth the money this ones had a full service she needed one....:eyebrows:

Very Impressive Geoff sound wise - The typical British sound Lucid and precise but also has the gut bass from the 65 PWC but also no long goes into protection at half way this way caused by 2 overloading resistors on the right channel the new ones are specified correct - its gonna be driving my Tannoy 615 MK2's when i get round to making room so i can have them in the main room and have a change around in the new year Im going to need to do a mod on the back and label up the inputs as the Japanese is not my forte unfortunately. The 6060 can be bridged as a mono-block to i might try this at some point but might need guidance..;)
